1978 VW T2b Landmark Combi
Currently featured in the latest issue of Hayburner Magazine
Landmark is a special conversion carried out in the late 1970s in the United States by the National Coach Corporation (based in California) on the basis of a T2, to create a very high-end ‘lifestyle' van.
The idea was to offer a VW van converted in the spirit of ‘chic camping' / ‘luxury American van' with special finishes, upgraded interior equipment, roof rack, chrome bumpers, etc.
Very few were produced: 300 in total, and some websites estimate that fewer than 20 remain in the world, with ‘less than a dozen still operational' according to some enthusiasts, and this is one of the best preserved.
I happened to meet the former owner who imported it from the US.

Non-original exhaust but makes a magnificent sound (see video at 19.07)
Bodywork in very good condition
Captain chairs (swivel seats), thick carpet, decorated panels, high-end upholstery and very good workmanship.
Lots of original and functional accessories, including, believe it or not, two electric fans in the front ventilation system! The only thing missing is the cabinet with sink in the back
Wood/Formica finishes/luxury van materials of the era.

Landmark est une conversion speciale realisee a la fin des annees 70 aux États-Unis par la societe National Coach Corporation (basee en Californie) sur la base d'un T2, pour creer un van "lifestyle" tres haut de gamme.
L'idee : proposer un van VW transforme dans l'esprit "camping chic" / "van americain de luxe" avec finitions speciales, equipements interieurs ameliores, galerie de toit, pare-chocs chromes, etc.
Le nombre d'exemplaires produits est tres faible : 300 et certains sites estiment qu'il en resterait moins d'une vingtaine dans le monde, "moins d'une douzaine encore operationnels" selon certains passionnes, et l'un des mieux conserves.
Il se trouve que j'ai rencontre par hasard auparavant, l'ancien proprietaire qui l'a fait importer des US

Echappement non d'origine mais fait une magnifique musique (voir video a 19.07)
Carrosserie tres tres saine
Sieges "captain chairs" (fauteuils pivotants), moquette epaisse, panneaux decores, sellerie haut de gamme et de tres bonne facture.
Beaucoup d'accessoires d'epoque et fonctionnels dont, tenez vous bien, 2 ventilateurs electriques dans la ventilation avant! Ne manque que le meuble avec evier a l'arriere
