I am located 35 miles S/E of Houston, Texas and build VW engines, air cooled only . If possible I can remachine your case and I do the lineboring and thrust cutting in house. If your case is bad, figure about $1,200 for a new case. Cylinder heads are reworked by professional machine shop, if they are not cracked. Cost, depends on condition they are in. This usually saves the customer money. This is a full time VW repair shop and I give a written warranty on all my stock engines of six months or 6,000 miles. You do have to maintain them and drive normal, as my written break-in process states and follow the maintenance schedule of VWOA.
No Shipping !!! Local engine building only to install the rebuilt engine into your car. . 50% down payment required up front and balance paid when engine is completed. If you want to upgrade your engine, like put a 1600cc into a VW which had six volt system, I charge $120 to modify the transmission bell housing. If transmission mounts are bad, there is a labor and parts charge to replace them. I will not install an engine into any transmission with bad rubber mounts or with solid or urethane mounts. Most stock rebuilds cost between $1400 and $2000 for parts and labor. Yours, depending on what you have to work with, might cost more money. I cannot quote a final price until I do a tear down of your engine to see what you have to work with. Please , don't call me and ask for "ball park" numbers. Once the tear down is completed, I can give you the exact total cost to rebuild your engine. I do not rebuild any engine which has been disassembled and brought to me in pieces.
Here is the best deal, if you read down this far. Find the lowest price some professional VW shop will charge you to rebuild your engine, then show me IN WRITING, their letterhead or their printed estimate and I will beat their price by 25%, installed with free follow up at 250 miles and written warranty on parts and labor. Nobody does better work and nobody beats my prices, so you can use the shade tree mechanics but good luck ! No shipping !!
