Today I added the regulator and hose with adaptor to use 1lb refillable bottles for the stove.
Cut the shelf to fit the heater hoses.
And added the drain plumbing. (Still need to connect the P trap to the drain tube, need to find a 1 inch flexible tube.)
Man there is a lot of functions contained in that westy kitchen unit.... _________________ Dave O

1) The painter drawer looks great, better than expected.
2) I love the heater vent in the kitchen faceplate.
3) Given all the fancy Victron bluetooth battery devices in your van, what are you monitoring on the kitchen faceplate battery monitor? Is it just one more for fun? A different battery? _________________ - Jim

Guilty as charged.
Current: 1990 Westy Camper - Bostig RG4, 2wd, manual trans w/Peloquin, NAHT high-top, 280 ah LFP battery, 160 watts solar, Flash Silver, seam rust, bondo, etc., etc.
Past: 1985 Westy Camper - 1.9 wbx, 2wd, manual trans, Merian Brown, (sold after 17 years to Northwesty who converted it to a Syncro). |

Agreed on the painted drawer.
This is one of my favorite build threads here on the samba. There is so much detail and thought put into this build. You can clearly tell it is his second Vanagon.
I have never seen anyone output heat through that area on the stove. Really cool. _________________ "Jo Ann" - '83.5 Westfalia EJ22e w/Peloquin |

It will give house battery voltage and amps in/out of the batteries. Just an easy way to see how it is doing load wise. (It can also do amp hr status of the batteries if I set it up properly.) Yep, another toy.... _________________ Dave O

I haven't either.
When I was noodling thru how I wanted to do the heat for this build I knew I did not want to outlet heat through the panel under the seat or anywhere near the floor. It really limits what I can put on the floor and can be a hazard if it gets blocked. After sleeping on it for a while I decided to look closely at the kitchen unit for opportunities. And this space turns out to be the perfect size. I have seen some folks put a cutlery drawer in that space so I kind of knew it was available.
I used silicon wire reinforced hose for heat resistance and durability. It fits the stock vents really well.
I have already done this mod to my '87 westy and I love it. _________________ Dave O

Hi Dave:
That's very impressive work you have been doing!
Have you managed yet to get a seat swivel unit? If not, I have one I will not be using. PM me on that.
I also have some of the matching "Folkestone" laminate for your kitchen if there are any areas for which you need that.
Good to see all that COVID progress on your "Eurovan"! _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

Ron, I am good. Swivel seat base welded in just before Covid hit.
And I have a 4'x8' sheet of the Folkstone I have been using.
Great minds think alike.
I hope to run across you and your better half somewhere later this year. I am likely to be in Utah the beginning of October this fall. Hint....hint.... _________________ Dave O

Hey me too! Are you using SEM vinyl dye? What shade? _________________ Joe T.

Cleaning up a couple details on the kitchen.
Added new stove knobs and a locking bar from defunk3d.
This is a solution to something that has always bugged me. It seemed too easy for a kid to play with the gas knobs or for someone like me to not turn them fully off. This solves both issues very well.
https://defunk3d.com/product/cooker-knobs/
And I found that a 3/4” id vinyl hose fit the trap perfectly and by heating it with a heat gun I could stretch it over my Rube G plumbing pipe. I like it when I get lucky.
At this point the kitchen unit is ready to install... after I ‘paint’ the headliner this weekend. _________________ Dave O

I ‘painted’ the headliner this weekend. I guess I really dyed it.
I used these products.
Masking everything off was a PITA.
It took all six cans of SEM Color Coat 15603 to cover the headliner. You apply in light/ medium coats and it takes several coats. I was getting about one coat per can. Glad I had six.
The result was excellent. But very white.

I did the same project on Saturday, although I'd already torn out all of the liner below the top window line so it wasn't quite as involved. It came out really nice though! It's a bummer how fast those cans go empty...
