Is this the best or what are other folks using to install urethane bushings? |

That's what I used on my urethane bushings. Seems to be holding up pretty well so far.

I have roughly 5 years on my suspension and the snot is holding up well.

Formula 5 Prelube 9-11104 from Energy Suspension.
Good price and extremely tacky stuff. Used on my Syncro suspension rebuild with poly bushes in 2018 and still quiet as a mouse.
Highly recommend. _________________ Currently:

Unfortunately to do it right you would need to disassemble it.

I installed powerflex bushings in my mk1 rabbit convertible a few years back. Used the powerflex grease. No squeaking, but it didn't seem like anything special.
Bought bushing snot for the pwoerflex bushings on the vanagon. This stuff seems to be of very high quality. Super sticky!! Buy a box of cheap thin gloves and swap them often is my advice. If it gets all over tools it's super hard to remove.
I think it will perform very well. I have not driven the van yet though since the suspension upgrade. Still need to wrap up the engine. _________________ 1981 VW Vangagon TDI (in progress)

In theory, if you mark the camber eccentric washers before disassembly, and reassemble with the washers in the same location, camber should not change.
With the tire off, you should be able to remove the upper control arm bolt and lube the bushings. My feeling is when the inner metal sleeve is sized properly, the suspension bushing should move around the sleeve when the control arm bolt is torqued to spec. So you could slip the inner sleeve out, lube the ID of the poly bushing and the OD of the metal sleeve and reassemble. |

I'm still finding sticky wrenches in my tool box 4 years later, but never any noise from the front end. I would say that yes, it is the best. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

Yep, so awsome that I also thought FTW when my nitrile gloves broke...
Even 99% rubbing alcohool found on the lower shelves in drug stores, and lots of shop towels require some work to remove that stuff on hands and tools.
Heck, I changed the steering column bushings to Powerflex and had some all over my arms and my face.
Great product sold by Chrisopher at t3technique, and has now become quite a no-brainer on my westie and my car.
Next time, I'm wearing a disposable hazmat suit _________________ '89 Westie, unmolested, in the family since 2002, 1 PO.

Is a 2 oz jar enough to do a pair of 2wd UCA PowerFlex bushings? Or, maybe it's best to have a 7 oz jar on hand?

I did my bushings a long time ago. Back when Christopher was loogie, i don't remember if loogie sent snot or something else, but he did send special grease with my name on the container.
Still feels good driving but yeah it's started to squeak a little at curb entries. I got snot on my transaxel front mount but that's just a year old now.
I will probably add some new t3 products to the process of re greasing. I went to Fosters frame and axel in Seattle for the job and I will go back there. It could be as much as 15 years ago. |
