It's been mentioned in other similar threads and on other acoustic/vibration sites as a "don't do it" method. It's not just cheap, it's ghetto. _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

What about the roof paper from home despot? I have seen people use this for cheap sound deadening, but it has not been mentioned here. |
I cant handle the smell. That stuff has a strange odor |
is that the tar backed stuff that gives the smell of downtown new york on a hot day? |
Yes they put it on the floors in the paint shop at ford as purple 5 year old wet paint is tracked everywhere. Every day they replace it with rolls and rolls and it always makes me gag when they do it _________________ 82 Westy ☢, 66 Splitty ☮, 73 Type 181 ✠ |

|
|
hey guys,
I would like to sound proof my westy but don't have the time. Can anyone recommend a place or person in and around Los Angeles that can do this for me and has the experience. I also need to refinish the wood paneling and Head Liner. Maybe it can all be done at the same time.
Thanks!
i hope this is the right thread to put this in. |

I have not read all the posts...but plastic bubble wrapping? Alum foil on first, then the packing bubble wrap.
Foam peanuts (I can see the mess now...) stuff behind the panels?
If you have the big bucks.....spray polyurethane bed liner foam. _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

I used a fat mat type material called KilMat. Same stuff just cheaper. I used small pieces of it on each panel to prevent the tympanic resonance on the flat metal panels. On top of that I used adhesive neoprene with a foil top coat that I got on Amazon. I used this for full coverage.
In my opinion the most important thing is to use a closed cell product. Open cell products like styrofoam and spray foam and also the stock fiberglass can be penetrated by water and will hold it against the panel making rust a bigger problem.
Adhesive bubble wrap should be good, but a little fat mat on each panel goes a long way in writing things down.

Install a GEX engine. In one month, the Bus will be quiet as a church mouse _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

...or get a premium sound system with sub woofers and you'll never hear the engine or road noise again.
Seriously, I used rock wool behind 1/4" textured closed cell foam mat for panels on anything vertical and used a layer of carpet underlay and foil water heater wrap on the floors and find the combination works well versus having nothing but the carpet and panels. I check the rock wool in the walls and up front occasionally and haven't noticed any moisture retention issues or signs of rust even driving and camping through the winter months. _________________ *******************************

The rockwool is great stuff and is a much better alternative to the fiberglass used in some original campers. It tends to not hold moisture and it blocks noise much better. We sell quite a bit of it from my work for sound proofing. _________________ 1979 VW BUS
