I would rally like to start a forum where we can gett together and talk about parts quality.

I have had the chrome pully spin off years ago. Yes! German parts are the answer; But what do we do if we are running a slightly modified type one motor in our bus? We do not want to change out the exhaust, bust our knuckles over parts or replace stupid perifieral peices do to their inherent lack of quaily that is making the core of our bus wear out prematurly SO what parts do you use? I can name a few that I have had good luck with. German parts of coarse. Berg parts definitly. I like the Mofoco heads on my motor although have had a very mixed experience with them over all. What else is there? I am curious. I consider only a few places when I think about ordering parts. I do not want a clutch plate from Korea on my bus understand. So now that things seem to be drying up where are the quality pruducers going to go when so many support manufactures fast buck cheap product bait. Can we put together a list of quality. Lazy and cheap has always cost me far more in the long run............Parts that do not fit properly or waste our money time need to go out of business. Not the people who put their hearts into creating the culture we enjoy. Ok- sorry, this could be a bit over the top.

So does anyone have a suggestion for a good place to find a muffler for my 69? I guess maybe I will just need to take it to a pipe shop?

aross229, is your engine stock? Are you looking for better flow, bigger pipes, heat? I put a stock beetle type muffler with dual chrome tips, and new heater boxes on my 69 over a year ago. It was all made by VENG (Netherlands I believe). Quality is good. Had to heat up and bend the pass side tube a smidge to make it fit. Bought it all at Bow-Wow. California Imports has the same muffler I believe. Other than that, the choices are innumerable for aftermarket type exhausts. From the cheapo Monza type to the ceramic coated big can hideaway type. $$$$ I have heard good and bad about all of them.

Good luck.

hey thanks
I have a 1776 with larger jets in a pict 34. The motor has mild head work done, a c/w crank and hydraulic lifters. I just need an exhaust from Berg that they currently are not producing. So- So much for my blasting quality. I think I am going to order the muuffler blank and just weld my existing flange to that. It is a special high clearance bus kit I ordered from them back in 2000. Its is a great single quiet pack set--up

I have owned my 1973 Bus since 1978. It is totally stock. It has 440,000 miles.
I put in only German OEM parts.
One day, I bought a load of crap from Rocky Mountain Motor Works.
Nothing fit correctly. Quality was abysmal. It was like putting Wal-Mart lingerie on grandma, it didn't look right and it was offensive as hell.
Now I use OE Vee Dub for original German rubber, Bus Depot (stainless steel muffler excellent), and I will use Reichart Tuning in Germany for original cranks, lifters, cams, cases, rods, pistons, etc. Well worth the extra expense, after you factor in the aggravation of installing crap, it is not that expensive to do it right and just bolt the OEM parts in, no bother.
Colin
my original heads are still good, original crank made it to 419,000 miles, original case is tired but serviceable, original oil pump made it to 300,000 miles, camshaft has 200,000 miles, that original stuff is hard to beat.
