I've been curious about this as well. The only drop spindles I could find are the vintage v-dubs ones as well. But considering the reviews on here, I will not be getting those. I've read lowering your car with the torsion bars isn't the best for your suspension parts. Are drop spindles the best way to get a little drop and a bit more of a sporty handling experience? |
not in my opinion. If you are only wanting a mild drop, 2 maybe 3 splines and smaller front tires will be fine on your suspension. you'll even be able to use the stock oil shocks, have a great feeling ride, and looks good.
some of us are even blasphemous and lower otherwise completely stock type 3's and 34's a spline just to get rid of the nose high look |
Yup, the front of my Notch has been lowered 2 "inner" splines since 2000, and I haven't had any issues with it. Same goes for my wife's 70 Orange Fastback...2 "outer" splines down since 2000. Mines even running the 50+ year old original VW front shocks. My wife's car is running lowered link pin oil shocks without any issues.
Rob's Roadster is at least 3 splines down up front, with lowered link pin shocks. He's also running 195-50-15's up front for fender clearance. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Bert spindles were a one off, many years ago. Not many were made. Contact Russell at OldSpeed, he does drop spindles and narrowed control arms. Last I checked they were exchange/ service. His reputation is excellent. |

Hello,
I actually looked into it several months ago to make another run.
As we all know life became expensive.
I need to ask around Euro 850 a set to make this happen with just a very very small profit to be made.
I can't image I would sell 50 of these at such a hefty price.
103 sets were made and sold. I do have set #68 on my '68 fasty and one spare set just in case it can happen again.

Hi BerT3
Only dropped spindles or also narrowed trailing arms?

Only dropped spindles.
I never made narrowed trailing arms.

Russell Ludwig at Old Speed can make narrowed arms out of stock cores,
As well as dropped spindles.
Both are welded. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Don't know if welded arms and or spindles are TUV rated. I only mention that as "stonewood" is in Germany. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

There is no chance for narrowed arms in Germany with the TÜV. _________________ 1977 Karmann Mobil

That's clever!
I have set #10 just sitting in my basement, still in the packing. Are they old enough to be considered NOS yet? _________________ 1968 Regatta Blue Squareback |

Hope that you would make another run as I would be willing to pay 850€ a set and quite sure I am not the only one. _________________ -58 Typ2 ambulance
