Ran into this at Bugapalooza in Tennessee a couple weeks ago. Price worked out. Wife was smitten so why not.
We have some plans.
Starts, runs and drives. 1600 seems ok.
Gonna sweeten up the insides, fix som rust issues and give it some clear coat.
All for fun
The wife named it Pepperment Patty due to the "patina.'

The wife - MH - started peeling up the tar off the floor today. Her first time! I think I have suffered through this five times in my early life.

Still tearing out 55 years of rust and ruin.
Surprisingly solid for that many years of neglect.
Clearly there was at least one repaint.

Right rear pan is rotted like a Beetle. I find that weird. Maybe the window didn't seal.

Not a lot of room in there.

Making progress. Gonna have to add some other patches. Hopefully there is enough to weld to.

Thanks. It is not without its challenges. It took a heck.of a hit on the DS rear.
It is going to be a little rat rod-ish but we want the interior to be nice - budget nice - not Sewfine nice.
Today the owner (Mrs Heiferman) worked on getting the tar off the floor. This was harder than I remember on all the Beetles I have done this to.
While she did that I worked on some rust repair.

I got the outer wing fitted but have been struggling trying to make an inner piece.

....So Ms Heiferman found them for cheap at M&T and bought both sides. That will be easier!
