^^ Congrats on that rare beast and 20 year quest. Slider, ice pick handles and innie vents , and seemingly dry original paint turquoise bus(assuming my eyes are working). That's a lot of checkboxes.. |

There's a prototype photo of a '62 slider that Clara posted in the past.
Progressive Refinement states that the slider became available as mcode 161 on 16Apr63. However, I have found numerous errors in PR when it comes to dates like the first day of Ruby Red or thin lip dog legs. _________________

Thanks. I thought it was 4/63. Would be awesome to see pics of a small hatch slider |

i used to have a 64 slider. the sliding door came off the rail at the bottom very easy. I got good at catching it before it hit the ground and putting it back up. Definitely seems to work better on the bays. sold it quickly for one with regular doors. so much quieter. and you can mount stuff to the doors. _________________ regards

Friday after work I took this empty trailer up to Wisconsin. Saturday I loaded this February 1956 Dove Blue (under respray) Kombi and brought it home. Guess I have a home for those BBT pressed bumpers I bought last month. The bus was last licensed 50 years ago in 1975 and stored since.

I had to see how easily I could get to that dove blue on the outside. Takes some scrubbing but not bad

I have my first bus. It was sitting in a field since 1979. It originally was a Nevada car, but it was used in Rochester NY year around for 5 years. Apparently never covered. I will keep it from getting worse, but I currently am putting all my energy and money in making my 63 beetle better. Still this crusty bus will in some way be an adventure, it will look cool in my yard. I don't plan on cutting it up. And it has some serious rust in door pillars, but that drivers side panel has no dents. The roof was perfect, but all along the gutter its seriously rust through. The motor will be checked out it was taken out and left inside covered.. so its rodent city in the tin. Hopefully the case and important stuff didn't get corroded badly. Not expecting much, but it turns. Supposedly was freshly rebuilt before retirement.. but then why retired?
If interested I will post more photos, especially when it's rolling and that red paint is off the original paint.
It's going make me wish for a road worthy van even more now.
