ok im pretty sure my trans call for the axle nut torque to be 217 ft lbs. of torque, but my question is what are the bearing cover bolts suppose to be? in the haynes manual i believe what i have included with picture is a "bearing cover" what are the bolts that hold this in suppose to be torqued at? thnx for any and all help. the manual calls them i think, bearing retainer screws(not bolts) and it saz 43 ft. lbs.?
forgot to add i believe it a 1966 squareback trans. |

I don't have the service manual in front of me, but the big axle nut is supposed to be torqued to 253 ft lbs. The bearing cover bolts (screws) would be 38-43 ft lbs. On later models there's also a hidden snap ring or two for the bearings, which is why the lower torque spec is given. Remember to use the paper gaskets and new seals, or you will have a leak. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

The 217 number is for the gland nut that holds the flywheel on. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
