For years we would reserve 3-sites for a week. We have 3 VW buses. When we tried to reserve, the person on the phone asked about vehicles. My sister-in-law explained 3 VW Buses.
She was told they do not allow VW Buses to camp in camp land. We were very disappointed, it has always been a family affair. There was plenty for the children to do, we would rent a boat for the day and rent their peddle cars.
We always raked our sites when we were done, we abided by all of their rules.

Not likely.
Here in the PNW, some of the private campgrounds don't allow older vehicles in their camps. Like, nothing older than 10 years.
Maybe the Campland folks had a bad experience from some rowdy VW Van owners and don't want to deal with it again. It happens sometimes. _________________ I have learned over the years.

I just spoke to them and asked someone in registration if a VW camper Van would be ok. She said it should be but pack a tent to qualify for a “tent spot.” Was a rather odd response.
I stayed there in a 78 Westfalia with no problems but it was 12 years ago. Maybe the person you spoke with thought it was literally a bus. Perhaps call them again.
From their website:
PLEASE NOTE: Campland on the Bay does not accommodate bus, school bus, ambulance, or box truck conversions. _________________ Keep on Busin'

You all are great. Funny stuff you all ^^^^^

Xatie and I stumbled across this place in 2013. It was a blast. Some really neat people to meet and hang with. Like a tailgate party at a college football game. Many of the RV owners had old VW buses growing up. I’d totally camp there again. This was before everyone had flags representing their political party. So maybe things got weird. Great location, people having fun, and different folks hanging out together. Good times. _________________ Keep on Busin'

This is interesting. I have been reading a lot of articles over the past couple of years on campers, converted campers, motor hoems etc. I have come across quite a few conversations that pretty much confirm that what the Campland people stated in their rules...its getting to be very common at places that one would consider to be "esatablished" camping rounds that have amenities.
It is probably a model that most established campgrounds with an investment in their property will be moving to. By investment...I mean if they provide hook ups, water, sewage, laundry and shower facilities or have a decent amount of roads or picnic sites to maintain....they have a lot invested.
The reasons stated in the conversations and articles are kind of a reaction to what has been happening over probably about a 5-7 years period.
The volume of people in this country that have taken to the road....not just for short vacations....but as a way of life...has exploded. There are a great many retirees that instead of continuing to pay for a house on a fixed income....are living and traveling their days away in motorhomes. Then you have the explosion in cheap living...."the van life"....then you have people who lost a lot durint the covidian years and are living any way they can and are nomadic.
I parts of the coutry I live in travel in....the past 3 years have seen a huge increase in the amount and range of RV and camper sales businesses. I have not seen this much interest in camping and camper since the mid 1970's when it seems like Winnbagos and Airstreams used to travel in packs.
So...places like this need to be insured. The worry is the vast crowds of well meaning adventurers who show up in converted box trucks and shcool buses that probably have no insurance or cannot be insured...may be fire traps....may end up never moving again and having to be towed out etc. etc. etc.
So, they want only vehicles that meet standards and are not run down. And probably if I look hard enough....said standards probably have only really been updated in the past 10 years.

What a shame. It was a pretty fun and chill place at one time. I wonder if all the pandemic work from anywhere and new to recreational vehicle travel jaded the owners of Campland. _________________ Keep on Busin'

It's actually been going on longer than the last ten years.
In 2005, I separated from the money sucking, now, ex-wife.
I looked into moving into my travel trailer at an established private campground on the Columbia River in Washington State.
That campground had these exact vehicle age restrictions firmly in place and would not budge on the year specific vehicle ruling. _________________ I have learned over the years.

If it were squatters they were concerned about then a limit on time stayed would be sufficient. It's not an insurance thing either because you need insurance to drive there. My read is that they are trying to associate their facility with the rich and famous for whatever big arrogant thrill that gives them.
Not the kind of place or people I want to be seen with! _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old!

I'll drop one of my trademark analogies:
I ride motorcycles. I ride way too fast and my bikes are way too loud. I usually restrict my noisy speedfests to the likes of the Kancamagus Highway instead of annoying the peaceful citizens of our various neighborhoods. In truth I'm probably annoying numerous Sierra Club types 'cuz the woods are full of 'em. Our version of the Sierra Club is the Appalachian Mountain Club otherwise known as the Amalgamated Money Corporation.
I digress. It used to be I could swing my fist without harming my fellow humanoids. There used to be lots of face- free space to do so. Problems arise with the proliferation of humanoids. It is both politically incorrect and illegal to punch 'em.
Just the same we have some idiot who rides up and down our street on a sportbike. He holds his bike at close to redline or stuttering against the rev limiter. It must be like the pileated woodpeckers who bang on aluminum ladders or tin roofs for attention this time of year.
Too many analogies for one thread.
Anyway, I'm old enough that I sit in my rocking chair and mutter to myself,
"There ought to be a law!!"
all the while wishing I could grab the shovel leaning against the house and shove the handle through the spokes of Prick Boy's motorcycle. It's a sport bike so it has three spokes per wheel.
Most likely outcome would be more frustration and a broken shovel.
Anyway, sometimes situations that appear to be discriminatory are reactions to our idiot predecessors, obnoxious oxymorons of every stripe who spoiled things for us long before we got here.
Footnote: "Predecessors" is a contraction of "pre- deceasors", Darwin Award recipients who Evolution removed from the food chain long ago.
