Helping a friend with his beetle which we believe to be a 1970.

1) how can we make sure the year and if it’s super beetle or not.
2) block has a serial number that starts with H5. Is that a 1500?
3) noisy generator and G on dash lights up. Is the generator the same on 1500 and 1600?
4)clutch slips when releasing clutch pedal in 2nd gear. Is there an adjustment?
5) where can I get the electric choke? I broke the spade connector
6) pulls to the right when I hit the brakes. Where do I start?

Thanks in advance

What's the 3rd digit of the VIN, should be a 0

Look at the spare tire, if it's flat it's a Super, if it's on an angle then it's not.

BTW, 1971 was the 1st year of the Super.

2) block has a serial number that starts with H5. Is that a 1500?

Started life as a 1500, larger 85.5 cylinder can be dropped in if it was rebuilt

3) noisy generator and G on dash lights up. Is the generator the same on 1500 and 1600?
They are the same

4)clutch slips when releasing clutch pedal in 2nd gear. Is there an adjustment?
There's a wingnut on the end of the cable under the left side of the car.

5) where can I get the electric choke? I broke the spade connector
Check the free classified

6) pulls to the right when I hit the brakes. Where do I start?
Bleed and adjust the shoes

Lots of great informations! Thank you. I think I found someone on the classified that’s pretty close to me.

Another question.

The bracket the holds the generator is loose. Is there supposed to be something between the bracket and the generator?

The bracket should be around the generator stand rear side and around the generator itself and fastened with a 13mm bolt and nut. Hope this helps.

The correct bracket/clamp really only goes on one correct way.

The generator breaker was broken and the previous owners just stuffed it between the stand and generator

The generator pulley was left loose so it was noisy and the generator light was on because the wires on the generator were flipped.

My new question is about the gasket that goes around the engine. I believe it’s called the engine gasket. It’s helps with cooling. It’s missing and the spacing between the engine and engine compartment is really uneven. Can the tins be adjusted?

If it is the rubber strip which fits around the perimeter of the engine compartment you are referring to it is replaceable although not easy with the engine in the car. It is very important to keep exhaust heat out of the engine compartment. The tins are not adjustable. Good luck.

Back around 2019 I had to drop my engine. I replaced the engine bay gasket & had to spend a few straightening the channel it slides into. Some people claim to use a lubricant to help install. I left the channel slightly loose & hammered it closed with a hard rubber hammer.
Also there's a gasket for a bus that others say seals well & is an easy install.

Top of clutch pedal should move almost an inch before resistance is felt. I used my hand for precision.

Is generator polarized, belt adjusted, & all contacts shiny - including transaxle strap ?

Maybe solder that tab back on ?
I go for function - doesn't have to be pretty.

Good luck ... stay safe
