I was prepping my 1970 convertible for engine drop due to considerable oil leak.
Noticed that the removed oil bath was leaking pretty badly. Good news because I don’t have to pull the engine after all.

I’d attempted a fix of leaks in two damaged air cleaners with JB weld, but that was not effective. Anyone have advice on locating all the leaks and properly patching? Keeping it looking good would also be nice. Thanks in advance. George in NY

What por15 product would be best for pinholes? There is a patch, a spray topcoat, a rust prevention product to be brushed on…

I'd be surprised if JB Weld wouldn't work, if the surface was taken to bare metal.

I know, right. I hold the unit up to the bright sky and apply the JB to the obvious holes. Might have to also repaint with epoxy or POR15

Around 5 years or so ago I had wanted to paint and put a new decal on my oil bath air cleaner. I had 2 of them so thinking I chose the better of the 2 I did just that . After trying to install by filling with oil it started leaking before I could get it installed. Since it was already painted and a new decal on it figured I'd repair it. All I did was coat the inside bottom with black seam sealer. Auto body seam sealer I've used before on welds and such. napa sells it or I've bought it on line before at summit racing. Just make sure to clean beforehand with alcohol and let it dry at least 24 hours. It dries to a hard rubber. Like I said this was 5 years ago and hasn't leaked a drop since. L

After posting this I was thinking I may have sealed on the outside of the air cleaner on the bottom so easy enough to go check. After going downstairs to my garage it turns out the seam sealer is on the bottom of my air cleaner still doing it's job. As far as the inside , I have a feeling I put it on both sides. The inside a limited amount. Like I said it's been at least 5 years.
