I now have a road-worthy Westy, thanks in large part to you fine folks here on thesamba, and I want to take this opportunity to say thanks.
I bought the van last fall after it had been sitting for 20 years. It’s been a looong road getting to this point, with some setbacks, some victories and a whole lot of newly acquired knowledge and skills.
I still have a punch list a mile long(and growing), but I had my first camp outing last week and another planned for this weekend. Feeling really good right now(knock on wood and a genuflection in the direction of the Vanagon spirits).
If any of you will be at West River Westies in Vermont next weekend I’d love to meet up!
Al

Congrats! When we got ours we did a three-day weekend over Labor Day 2006 and the net weekend left on an already scheduled trip to the Thousand Islands. Lots of good memories thereafter. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic, tragically crushed by a falling hickory tree in my own driveway and now gone, leaving me Vanagonless and with no plans to replace it, alas. |

Very cool. Congrats on getting out and enjoying it. I'm trying for life goal metrics like "putting more miles on it than dollars into it" and "more days on the road than in the shop". _________________ '85 Westy full camper, Subaru 2.5L, 5 speed SubiGears + 5speedbus shifter kit |

I'll be there, but I'll probably wear a disguise and not talk to any strangers or strange folk - which is pretty much anyone who owns a VW bus. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

Driving a Swiss Army knife is weird until you understand it. Then it's game on for adventures.

Glad you're rollin'.
When you go somewhere interesting in your Van, take pics and write it up.
I'm lookin' forward to it.
