I've never seen under coating applied so far up the rocker panels. Amazing that dry ice can do such a thorough job without damaging paint.
This 69 is amazing. It will be interesting to see where the bidding will go considering recent bidding hasn't been very exciting. Two years ago, if this was a 4 speed, it would have easily exceeded $50,000. I think those interested in all original Convertible Ghia in this condition probably won't care what transmission is in it though.
If this was in my garage, I couldn't part with it. _________________ Marc

And the guy bought the car for $23K in 2019, and looks to have done nothing to it. |

Agreed. That was all the money for that car plus the moon. I can't believe it was no sale. I mean, it's a pretty clean custom-ish build, but cheap TMI seat covers and cheap loop carpet, no door panel trims, no sun visors, etc. I'd have taken the $12k in profit _________________ Currently own:

I totally agree with the you. The bidders were there on this listing. As goes the saying “ Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”! _________________ 1958 Karmann Ghia convertible

Brings back some good memories...
I once owned a twin of this one, but not quite in the same pristine condition. I converted the AutoStick to a 4-speed and built a 2.0L motor for it. It was one of my favorite VWs...
It's original Oriole Yellow paint actually looked much better than in this over-exposed photo...

Not that it matters now but I did forget to post the link.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1966-volkswagen-karmann-ghia-coupe-4/
I really thought it would have been a sale at $35k
911r is a big seller on BAT which I think affords them some influence in setting reserves.
If this was a private seller as opposed to a dealer I don't think BAT would have allowed a reserve over $30k.
I'm guessing 911r asked and BAT agreed to a $40k reserve based on preferred customer status. |

Thanks Dan! We missed you. The auction somehow didn’t seem complete without your very astute and honest comments! I really wanted this car. I actually bid on it when it was listed by Mecum in Kissimmee , Florida January 2024 auction but decided to stop bidding at 30k. Shoulda/ coulda….This semi automatic should be interesting. I have enough Ghia’s with the 4 speed manual transmissions. When this gem arrives you know that I’m going to be feasting my purest eyes all over it for a while before I drive it. I’m prepared to realize that it probably won’t look as pristine as it appears in the BAT listing. They always look nicer in the photos. _________________ 1958 Karmann Ghia convertible
