I bought this adapter for the tire shop to balance my tires. https://www.cagero.com/en/prod/Various/Tools/Works...amp;n=323.

Does anyone know if you can use the M12x1.5 lug nuts to hold the VW wide five rims or do you have to use M14x1.5?

Since beetle rims can be put on a type 2 and visa versa, it does not matter which lug bolts you use in a tire adapter.

Thanks. I did not know a Beetle lug bolt was a smaller diameter.

Why not get two of these for the same price, keep one and sell the other to someone else that needs one? Nothing special about that $80 adapter that these won't do the same.

Anyone know if modern (or older) tire mounting machines can mount the tire onto the rim with the beauty ring installed?

Not sure why you would even want to try? Doesn't that ring just pop off?

Kinda want to leave them on for two reasons. One to have them count albeit negligible in the balance. Two they don't pop off they scrape off and drag paint with the fangs. Then you put them back on a whole new scrape occurs.

I just have been told that these new "Touchless" mounting machines only touch the tire and the center.

I have those to put VW rims on a GM trailer axle. I wanted something better that the tire places liked.

I mount tires all the time on my kinda old tire machine, and it doesn't interfere with bus trim rings. I don't think that it would be a problem on any tire machine, as they work the other side of the rim than the ring.

Better? The tire place won't give a shit about what you paid. If they do, go somewhere else. Besides, they are only necessary for balancing, not mounting, and it is highly unlikely you will need to balance your bus tires.
