The way it was explained to me, you should be able to get a popsicle-stick width between the curled end of the bracket and the flap. That's about 3/8 inch, if I remember correctly.

If this distance is altered--usually, by rough handling when pulling the fan housing, for instance--the thermostat rod won't travel up and down unhindered, as designed. The results will be that the thermostat rod will travel at an unnatural angle, and get hung up on the hole in the head that it passes through.

Been there, and had to replace that flap to finally get one where the "C" bracket wasn't bunged out of shape. My thermostat rod kept hanging up on the head/hole interior and not opening and closing properly until I got the replacement.

Tim

Thanks for the replies. My 'C' opening is a bit too close to the flap, so I'll have to pull it back out a bit to achieve that 3/8". I had a thermostat expand too much and it buggered the thermostat rod, pushrod tube, and likely the 'C' clip. Will heat it up and see what I can do. In the meantime, I am waiting for Clark to get back to me about a new flap.
