Here's my friend's father at about 21 or 22 in his new 56 or 57 Ghia. He's 90 now and can't remember exactly what year the car was.
The family business was a wholesale slaughterhouse, and it was his job to drive around to farms to inspect the animals they bought. Originally he had a Beetle for this. Their territory was the north of Germany and Denmark where it can get quite windy. After driving the Beetle for a while, he noted to his father that the Beetle gets pushed around a lot, so he thought it wasn't very safe. He was able to convince his father to buy him this Ghia, its low profile making it better in crosswinds. My friend and I knew this was a ruse so that the single young guy could get himself a sports car!

Can any of you experts pin down the exact year? The door pull look odd to me. What years were they like that?

Here's the company cars the business had:

Definitely a 56-57 Ghia. The pull strap is correct. The driver side had a strap and the passenger side had a small arm rest. The 56-57 details are the corduroy fabric on the door panel (58-59 Ghias had pyramid vinyl) and the thin back front seat.
