The White Microbus didnt make the trip???? Bummer!
My family some 50 plus years ago drive the microbus from california to alaska, through the yukon, 500 miles of dirt roads in one stretch. It was a 50 HP 1500 cc 1963 Microbus. Only one thing broke, an outer headlamp lense. This was before the pipeline was built, a wild land. |

It was a bummer. It’s my bros daily driver. It could handle all of what we did without issue. He has a 58 as well. Man those reduction boxes and beefy tires on those split window buses are amazing off road.

I’m in for some goat exploring on Monday. I’m nearby, do you have a time and meet up location? |

I dig this. The boys and I were thinking we could do this trail as a November tradition with some of our other friends. You all have a great time and report back. If we do it again next fall or camp out there during the dryer months I’ll post it up.
It really has neat service roads and if you wanted to target shoot a firearm, nobody cares and it’s legal in areas. Just clean up the area and be safe. _________________ Keep on Busin'

Think I'm going to head over after daycare drop off here in Portland (830am) and then drive down- about an hour drive from Portland, right? Then do some exploring and coffee drinking on the mountain! _________________ 89 VW Cabriolet

And to think, I had to endure those Astro Van insults for a day and a half. Lol!
The Goat Mt/ Campsite was difficult to get to. The accent was almost 100% uphill from Estacada to the top of the mountain.
The last mile and a half was the hardest.
Oregon Logging roads have 6" minus rocks laid down on the roads for traction. They are fine for the big rigs but, in a Split, Bay, Vanagon and an Astro Van they are rough at best.
Loose rocks make getting traction in a FWD van difficult if you cannot get a run at the final grade coming into camp.
i had to back down the grade and get a run at it when, my front tires lost all grip.
I'll post some pics tomorrow. I'm a little exhausted and don't want to upload them tonight.
P.S. Kelly quit breaking parts and get your van ready for the next campout. _________________ I have learned over the years.

I'm trying! With great (horse) power comes great... Amount of money spent on upgrading other bits? I guess??
I've already got a new transmission sitting in my garage waiting to go in, just waiting on my clutch and axles to show up so I can do it. This one is WAY stronger than my 091 so I'm hoping I get many good adventures out of it.
See ya at the next one for sure!! |

Adding a few more pics from the 2025 Goat Mountain Exploration camp.
This is a pic of the rocky road I referred to above. Pics don't really show how steep that incline is. It's steep.
After getting camp setup, we did some target shooting, followed by dinner prep.
Beer Brats were on order for a decent camp meal. Onions, peppers and Brats make a pretty tasty dish.
After our Brat dinner, we built a good campfire. This was the last evening we are allowed to have one. The USFS declared all Mt. Hood National Forests are a non burning zone.
We slept through the night and broke camp midday. And headed out for a hot and difficult drive home.
Following Xevin's Vanagon back down the mountain.
All in all, this was a fun yet, short campout. We all needed a break from life for a day and this trip hit the spot. _________________ I have learned over the years.

An Astrovan might be a Prince Andrew at a campground but a Eurovan is Jeffrey Epstein…

Always best to do your target/skeet shooting before you get too many beers in! _________________ *******************************
