Top I usually run at about 160. Bottom is an aftermarket pinion shaft and with out knowing if it was keyed or splines and the spacing between 3-4 safe bat is 100 lbs and stake the nut _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

So grateful for the info. The bottom is the pinion nut that came with the pinion I purchased from So Cal imports. Building a freeway flyer. I believe it is keyed set up. But not 100%. _________________ Speed Leaving Without Warning . . .

VW says to torque the top nut to 87 ftlbs, then to loosen it off. Then torque it to 43 ftlbs. With such a low torque on a big thread, it's no wonder they need a lockplate to keep it from coming loose.
Personally, I don't see a good reason to loosen it, so I leave it at the higher number. _________________
