As I continue to drive my 60 Ragtop and plan my "Old Speed" build, I've noticed the stock seats don't exactly keep me in place during feeble attempts at enjoying curves in the road. I'd like to keep the back seat accessible and have things look period correct. I was looking at 356 seats but I'm unsure how I would make the mounting work without losing a lot of height.

The other problem with 356 seats is they are so expensive now for anything half-way decent. Aftermarket is mostly, not that great looking. I think you have limited options. There are some nice reproduction 356 sport seats, but they come bare and they don't list prices making me think, it's also probably more than most of us would want to spend.

Those are quite something!

I have considered bmw e30 sport seats. They bolt directly to the floor, have a detachable headrest for the "proper" look but can still have safety of a head rest for normal driving. I had mocked a set up in my 67 bug years ago but have since sold my hoard of e30 parts. They look a little too modern but I think they might work.

My '56 has these. 80's vintage Mitsubishi Eclipse manual adjustable with removable head rests. And they come in several non-offensive colors.

Before I decided to just recover my stock seats I almost pulled the trigger on 2 door Jeep Wrangler seats. Unfortunately all I could find was grey or black and I wanted tan.
I liked the Jeep seats because they are more "chair- like", similar to stock VW seats, don't look too modern, and the passenger side cantilevers forward to access the rear seat. Same width, too.

For IowaMark, I'd recommend to go with these seats... Cool

Unfortunately can't ship them cheaply to the states, unless you know of some US Forces members in Stuttgart area relocating and willing to offer some container space...
