Thanks Buggee. I'm curious, how'd you manage to blow the crank shaft seal?

I think it's user error. I think its because I installed the seal flush or possibly a bit proud rather than set inside by 1/16" The outer edge of the seal was riding on the flywheel leaving a shiny ring high on the shoulder of the flywheel. I realize now that the seal install tool (a big metal washer) stops moving when it hits the crank dowel pins if they are in place, not getting the seal in where it needs to be. The case has a little edge around the lip of the hole that seems to provide a visible cue as to where to get it set in a little bit.

I do like the journey. We'll see if my first attempt at a mild performance configuration works OK. With the new one I'm trying to develop power in a modest rpm range up to 5,000. There seems to be more involved if trying to build one that can rev high. I'm sure it can be done better than what I've hobbled together but it's mine.

The measurements of the deck height and chamber calculate to 7.7 compression. From what I can understand from the research, the blower should give about 6 psi boost. So there is nothing extreme going on here. It should be ok.

I'm venting the valve covers and case (at the deleted fuel pump spot) to a breather box, in addition to keeping the stock oil filler vent tube to the carburetor. The breather box rabbit hole is as developed as the oil debates and was an interesting read.

I've kept the 13 lb flywheel, Kennedy Stage 1 pressure plate, and clutch disc with beefier springs. I liked that.

Hello Samba Peeps. Just checking in with a short video of the new engine configuration at idle, and a video of last weekend's personal best for my little Super Beetle. 17.27 at 76.56 mph in the quarter mile. Yee Haw!

Sweet video. You smoked the other guy off the line.

I haven't raced my car this year due to a lack of employment. Sad

Nice! Sounds and looks great.

At last weekend's VW Nationals in Hagerstown MD, one of the few races I watched had some monster baja-like Bug run the quarter mile in 5.5x seconds. Unreal.

Nice job! You smoked him off the line and got the hole shot!
