This has been a long resto for me. I’ve got the metal work done and the panels are straight now. Im left with a mixture of clean bare metal, second paint job urethane, and filler. What type of primer should I shoot before I lay down some surfacer primer?

| Epoxy primer first, then high build, then sealer, then paint |

Great. Thanks for the quick response.
I’ve used Nason products before. Would you recommend their line of paints? Or something else? I want to do a good quality job without breaking the bank. _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

| I never used Nason before. You’ll have to look in the forums for paints or on other pages. You just want to make sure everything works together and that you keep everything clean while doing the processes. Take your time with each one and by the time you get to base and clear you will have a nice looking paint job. |

The only way to ensure that everything plays nicely together is to strip it down to metal. BUT since you have the previous paint left on the body, make sure you use a nice sealer, like everyone has already mentioned. Nason is a good product that will have nice results, but again as everyone has already mentioned, prep is key.
Regardless of what brand paint I use, I always splurge on a better 2k clear coat since that's essentially sunscreen for the car. _________________ My other ride is a Zildjian |

Thanks for the replies. After some searching im leaning towards the SPI products. I’ve read good things about them and the rep called me right back to discuss prep and sequence of the process. Im getting psyched to get this moving again. I took my bus off the road in 2017 and have been picking away at it. Love the Samba and all the help y’all offer! _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

So im going with the SPI products for the epoxy primer and the 2k building primer. They can also mix up the vintage VW colors that im looking at especially the 61 this color Pampas Green.
If im priming the whole van does it matter whether I spray the inside first or do the outside first? And do I need to mask them off from each other? The rig is totally gutted. _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

I would not paint inside and outside at the same time. In theory, paint the inside first, making sure to mask everything off as to not get overspray on the exterior panels. _________________ My other ride is a Zildjian |

i think i would do it inside and out at the same time, from the bay window form i read that VW painted it all at once ,if all one color if two tone they would paint the whole thing except the top colors ,they didn't mask the top when spraying the bottom color ,then when it cured theywould mask off the bottom and paint the top. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=620186
