I bought a new tank from ISP West for my '73. Looks exactly the same except my old one has an additional ~3.5mm evap port on the left rear of the tank. The new one doesn't have that port. I looked in the IPB and there were actually 5 variations of the late model tank so I'm guessing the '73 tank was bit of a unicorn. I really don't understand the purpose. The small line ran across to the right side of the car and tied into a 2nd tee fitting (after the evap/overflow tee). Im guessing I just do away with that section of 3.5mm line? I'll get some pics up tomorrow evening to better explain.

Here's an example from another '73. Note the tee junction next to the right hood hinge. Follow that down and across and you can see the additional 3.5mm port on the tank where it connects. The ISP tank lacks that port.

My 71, and my wife's 70 have that line going across the front, tied into that small nipple on the tank. That line actually goes to the small canister under the left front fender. On both my 70 and 71's, the bracket that holds the canister rotted off from dirt being packed there for 30+ years. I think ISP eliminated the small nipple because most of the later cars have already lost the canister, and it was a source for fuel fumes in the trunk. If you really want that vent line in place, you'll have to add in a tee to the vent line at the fuel filler neck (the smaller of the 2 hoses). Keep in mind these cars are now over 50 years old, and most of the emissions systems are either already gone, or rusted out.
If you get Jim Adney's fuel tank vent kit, it'll eliminate a lot of the extra hoses that are probably already bad in your own car, as Jim's kit eliminates the canister part and the extra lines going to the back of the car.
Just so you're aware of it, that line going across at the firewall started with the 70 models and was used thru 73. I think some even got a flat plastic piece that had 2 small hoses attached to both ends of it. But the small hoses went to the under fender canister, then back to the rear under floor canister to vent the fumes to the air cleaner to be burned off (emissions related stuff). I hope this helps.

Thanks Bob! I plan to run the vent line out to the wheel well on the driver side and leave at thst. My canister is shot and after researching the whole system I don't have any desire to restore it. I reached out to Jim a week or so ago but didn't hear back so I wasn't sure if he was still putting those kits together.

I believe he's on vacation seeing his daughter, but I don't know for sure. You might try sending him an e-mail and see if he contacts you when he gets back.
