I went full bore as my teenage self would have wanted.
Two 12 inch subs in a custom enclosure where the rear seat should be, mids and tweets in a custom box in the rear luggage area and mids and tweets in the doors in custom door panels. Wiring run through the heater channel since I’m not using them for heat.
I will say that even a test tone calibrated system will get colored by engine and road noise but you just need to crank it up to overcome that. |
Would you please share pics of your door panels? I’m flirting with a three way component set… mid and tweeter in kick panels contoured to match a pod in the door for a mid-bass.
Also great idea utilizing the heater channels. My battery is currently under the rear “luggage shelf” and I’ll need that space for the enclosure volume so I’m thinking of moving the battery up to the trunk and I also don’t have heat…. So running a flex conduit through there with a 1/0 awg power wire is an option. It will be out of the way and protected. Still thinking on that one. _________________ Located in the Toronto area.

I got one of those generic hot rod door jamb wiring pass-through kits. PITA to install, but once done it's a really clean way to run your wires into your doors.
Also got a really generic-looking RetroSound radio head unit so it won't draw too much attention. Thinking of pulling that out, getting a radio blanking plate, and just going straight bluetooth module behind the rear seat. |

Interesting. I’ve not seen the generic door jam pass through kits. I’ll have to look that up.

I’m installing a 100” Samsung TV right now but I’ll post them this afternoon when I get home. _________________ Volkswagen!

Pops right in there like it was made to go there.
Combined with that sub you posted it should make for some killer A/V |

Oh, that made me laugh.
Just the weight of that beast would negate all my engine upgrades.
Anyway, here’s a picture of my door panel.
BTW that 100” arrived broken. _________________ Volkswagen!

This is hillarious. I love the vibe and sarcasm here. I think I’ve found my people.
I really like that. It looks very tasteful and making the baffle the full length of the door served so many purposes. Gave you a spacer for the depth, a solid surface to mount to. Eliminated the need to blend with the panel or recover the the panel. Flows with the lines of the car. Really good idea. I could see that working really well for me to blend into a kick panel if I make the end swoop up to meet the co tour of the kick.
Inspirational. Thank for sharing.
Oh and I’ve been installing home theatres and whole house audio systems for 30 years….. I fully understand your Samsung pain.

I’m a moonlighting trunk slammer though so you’d have more hours and if I’m being truthfull it’s 29 years. It’s my part time gig. I’m a firefighter full time.
So interesting that you do it too though!

Just spotted this on the interwebs…
https://blaupunkt.com/product/frankfurt-stereo/
It seems in spring 2026 Blaupunkt will release a modern version of the Frankfurt radio. It will have FM, DAB and phone functionality plus FLAC and iPod support. But in a vintage style enclosure. I’m kinda interested.

Yes! I saw this yesterday. They make it for a 70’s look too. I’m also interested. It’s made to fit DIN , small holes, and twin shaft so would work in stock applications, or in cars that have been cut open already, like mine.
