Any condenser will work. It's just if you want Bosch or close to correct.

When looking for a replacement, what is required of a condensor for the distrib mentioned to work?
Does it have to be 6 Volt? Not sure if anyone tried switiching 6 volt for 12 volt Bosch

Thanks!!

Matt
Also, Glenn, good to have met ya at the Maple grove show, helped with answering some questions I had -thanks

Ignition condensers work on either 6V or 12V. It's just a capacitor.

So then even with all the 12 volt VW distrib.s, it does not matter what capicitor to buy (as long as fits to the distrib body)..............

So... has anyone found an alternative source for aftermarket condensers that fit?

Not if you ask my wife. Wink

One option is the use the 02006 which is used on the 010 and does not have a mounting tab. You can mount it with a bracket from a 40hp Big Cap.

Here's my solution, just use a 02006 and get a condenser bracket from a 40hp distributor.

This is a 019, but the VJU4BR8 will look the same.

Wolfsburg West stepped up to the plate and had these reproduced.

THEY'RE BACK

Wolfsburg West now has in stock reproduction 36hp condensers that look fairly close to the original yellow wire ones. These will fit on VJU4BR8, VJ4BR8 and 0 231 192 019 distributors. They will also fit on 383, but are the small diameter version.

I spoke to them and they have 2000 in stock so hopefully they will be around for a while.

The information in this thread is incorrect. The condenser is available from Wolfsburg West.

No, it's correct. WW is not delivering Bosch parts, they are reproductions.

I prefer the Mel Brooks version of the Inquisition, via History of the World Prt 1

I just got my order and have to say they sort of look correct.

The bad:
The body is way to shiny... looks like chrome.
The wire is too thin and the loop on the engine doesn't hold it's shape.

The good:
They fit.
They work.

I'll post a side by side picture tomorrow.
