Have a 68 Westy and I'm looking to replace the hose between the steel tube (that runs from the dash reservoir) and the master cylinder. Merchants list 7mmID rubber hose... the hunk I removed measures more like 11-12mm. Am I missing something? NO WAY 7mm can stretch that far. Found a thread or 2 but looks like nobody has a proper replacement hose available in this size? Heard transmission cooler hose is good for brake fluid, but not finding it in 7/16 either. Any new ideas since earlier threads? Even be willing to buy a roll if I had to and resell what I don't need cheap here on the Samba. Thanks!

this reminds me of the 78 FI system, which requires 11mm fuel hose between pump and filter. i did find 7/16 fuel hose nearby, but i really dont know if fuel hose handles brake fluid. you could consider changing your resevoir to the 71 style behind the seat. that hose is easy to find. it plastic and for all i know might be 11mm. the 71 plastic hose uses a rubber sleeve between it and the snout. the sleeve can be bought thru wolfsburgwest.com

I think there are actually rubber sleeves in each end where the tube connects to the reservoirs. I've bought some from the dealer within the last 5 years. They might still have them. But I can't answer your main question.

The rubber sleeves are still available from the dealer. They are just 8 bucks a piece! I lost the note with the part number on it around after calling the dealer. (Grin)

A fellow I know has used hardware store clear vinyl for a few years... haven't decided if I'll go that path or not. The thicker hose means not much of a grommit going through the body.

?? There is no hose on the metal pipe.

If you have a hose, someone CUT the pipe.

The upper with the pipe looks like this:

I had the same hose running from the metal line to the master on my '68, it was blue cloth braided line but definitely not 7mm as you have found. I managed to find some silicone hose that was rated for brake fluid but it was not a metric size and didn't fit very well I just replaced it with the later upper reservoir and plastic hose.

Crappy pic, but you can see the hose here -

CIP has a hose piece 10mmID x5.5" for 73-79 busses or so they say. Anyone try that yet? Sounds like just the ticket... mine measured a bit over 11mm ID but not sure if it stretched/aged that way.

Got the brake hose part from CIP, thier PN VWC-211-601-805-F. Turns out to be an actual VW part from Brazil, VW PN 211-611-801 7. Diameter was good at ~10mm ID but at 5.5" long it was about 1/2" short. (probably why they were advertised for 73-79, not my 1968. Bought 2, cut about an 1.5" off the steel line to use as splice and clamped everything up nicely. Only down side was the price at $7.95 ea. Stings a little, but I'm back on the road without worries. Thanks for everyone's help.

I have a 1973 VW Bus. I got a new master cylinder. However, I am getting furious that after installing it, it leaks. After careful looking, I found out that the hose that goes between the resevoir in the cabin and the resevoir on top of the master cylinder leaks. However, I changed the clamp on the end of the hose that goes to the master cylinder with a hose clamps. IT STILL LEAKS!!!! Should I change the hose, I am at a loss and already lost my patience!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
