Do the folks who pay those electric bills know about this? Laughing

When the batteries run low, FREE charging stations can be found at many businesses including some Ralphs grocery stores, Costco stores and Hilton Hotels. Maps of FREE recharging locations, http://www.eaaev.org/eaaevcharging.html

Roll into the parking lot of Costco and pull up in front of two chargers. Bright green signs read "Electric Vehicle Parking Only." Nearly every Costco store has a pair of chargers in its lot, or plans to install them soon. The company is committed to creating an unbroken string of chargers up and down California for electric car drivers.

That is sweet, is this your daily, and whats the range? Gas prices dont phase you huh?

My Electric Bug is my daily driver. The range is 65 miles and I charge it for FREE at several locations.
Where can you get FREE GAS?

Some people charge at work and drive over 100 miles a day. I drive about 15 miles a day (450 miles a month), which cost me $9 for power each month. I charged at the park and Costco today, which saved me about 15 cents off my daily cost of 30 cents.
My Electric Bug has not been in a gas station for the last 29 years.
Here are some additional pictures and information. http://www.evalbum.com/1798

How many years do you get out of batteries? That seems to be the one thing left out of these otherwise seductive statistics. 30 cents a day is nice, but the cost of batteries is a fair chunk of change upfront.

The cost to replace the batteries is about 50 cents a day or $1,200 every 7 years. The cost of maintenance on my pickup was more than $1,200 in the last 7 years and gas for 38,325 miles is $11,500, at $4.50 a gallon. EV charging cost for 38,325 miles is $766.

What would you like to convert to an EV?

Here are a few information resources.

My '68 Electric Beetle:
This is my 1968 Electric Beetle, which was converted to operate on 100% electric power in 1979. The cost of charging the batteries is 2 cents per mile. It has three 120/240 Volt built in chargers. Top speed 85 MPH, range 60-80 miles. The battery pack is 144 Volts, controller 1,000 Amps, which produces 140 ft lbs of motor torque. The battery pack capacity is 24 kWh. Battery heaters improve the performance and range with the pack temperature at 80° F. Electric space heaters provide heat through the heating and window defroster vents.

Features:
Dual sensor battery heating system
Sealed battery boxes with blowers
On board charger 2,400 VA, PF 0.98, 120 VAC
Programmable charger algorithm with equalization mode
Auto scan digital thermometer with 6 inputs
Power Amp, 600 Watts, 4 Ch, 12 speakers, MP3 player, FM
Lightened flywheel
Din rail power panel
Front disc brakes
Front and rear coilover shocks
Upgraded rear Torsion Bars
Intermittent wiper motor controller with washer pump
Dual horns

Electric cars are very quiet; it’s a good idea to have a pedestrian warning device while parking your EV.

A used EV can be a good way to save money and get a system with compatible components. Also knowing the system performance of the setup is a great plus. However, not all EV designs perform to reasonable expectations.

What are the main components?
1. Motor
2. Controller
3. Battery pack voltage
4. Charger
