Ok if you want to help this old man again (77) I have a 1971 7 passenger bus that have 205/70R14 tires on it that the P.O. had install just before he left from Calif. to NJ . They are called "Euro Metric" The spare is a Dunlap
P195/75R14. QUESTION would I be ok leaving the 205's in the rear and changing the fronts to 185R /14C
All of the above 205's only have less than 4000 miles on them.
Any answers will be very helpful.
Thanks again

this question would be better suited for the tires thread below this one., and i see no problem with that as long as the tires on the same beam are the same size, fronts match and rears match. but not front to rear and front to rear. _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.

I had a 1973 orange bus with standard hardtop but jalousy windows on middle bays, fold down bench/bed in rear, and folddown table on side. Is this a "halfcamper"? No plumbing or electrical or LP. Very basic but extremely functional for daily commutes and weekend camping. Is this a "weekender"? What are the camper sub-types called? Thanks.
P.S. I know the Eurovan has a model called the MV with this configuration. What does MV stand for?

I am fairly new at VW buses, I have a 71 bus with a dual port 1600 and the original one bbl carb. I would like to switch to something that will give me a little more balls without killing me in mpg and the wallet. What suggestions has anyone got. Thanks. |

save the intake manifold as they are a one year only hard to find item.and get new dual intakes with a vacuum tube on them(need this for vac assisted brakes). upgrade to dual pict 34's carbs. it will get you a lot more power but not kill the mpg's you could always upgrade to 40's or 44's later but i find the dual 34's are fine on my 1600dp. also think about your exhaust it's another cheap item that can boost your power output...well at least use the hp's you have better.....
thanks for tacking on to an existing thread!! but a search can really help you out as this thread doesn't get visited often and usually is just a reference thread.
pm me if you need help and i'll do my best to walk you through what i know and/or point you to someone who can answer your questions in more depth. _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.

Extremely helpful info on Fuel filler neck replacements:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5141860#5141860
The Filler Neck he's talking about is this from Bus Boys:
Filler Neck Elbow, Upper, 1974 All, 1975 to 1978 FED MODEL
211-201-119 $18.15
http://www.bus-boys.com/bbnew.htm
I purchased it and it was excellent quality.
Comparison of old and new:

Has anybody been able to get the Front Seat Restoration photos to load ( http://homepage.mac.com/ratwell/78_Westy/PhotoAlbum27.html) or might have a link to a working site. Have a 76 Bay and am getting ready to install the new front covers and do not want to screw up.
Thanks |

From Ratwell's contact page:
November 2010 Update:
Apple has shut down homepage.mac.com support.
The result of this disruption has been that many photos of my website have broken. You can imagine how frustrating this is for members who actually pay for this service.
Please bear with me while I take the time to rehost them...I will ping the VW community when everything is back to normal.
You can see the picture links point to the dead mac location. Hope Ratwell can get his pix back up on his current web site. His instructionals are terrific (when the photos accompany the text). |

This is a link to nowhere now. Anyone have the correct link for "1970 Bay Window Paint Codes"?

VWCadets. Next time you may want to post in the forum for a quicker response.
The color codes for many years are included in the Archives Section. For a 1970,
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/70colors.php. I do not see a sky blue color listed, so you may want to read your mcode plate.
Moderator - Can you move these last two responses to a thread of its own in the Bay Window Forum?
Thanks |
