Since the vw166-forum is down, I'll try here...

I am trying to source the 100% correct and exact Willy Vogel central lubrication pump for my early Schwimmwagen. There are so many designs and variants...used on Mercedes, Horch, etc - I am confused. Can anybody post details and a picture of the whole pump assembly which is 101% correct down to the lid and all details for a 1943 Typ 166?

I know almost all variants can be made to fit and can be used...I am not after the function alone - I am after correctness. Does anybody know?

Here are 3 pictures of 3 variants that all supposively will work on the Type 166, but which - if any - is 100% period correct with regards to all details?

Does anybody have original period pictures / parts manuals or something like it? Proof of the original design and details...

Thank you in forehand.

I don't know the answer to your question but I would like very much to know more about the function of this pump. I did not know that these vehicles had a central lubrication system.

The way the handle's coil spring is oriented, it looks like you pull it with your hand to squirt the lubricant. What was it lubricating? The universal joints?

Its main purpose is to pop out water after the vehicle exit the lake.
Additional pumping will introduce oil into all the moving parts of front system to have them lubricated for road use. I will post some pictures when assemble the drive so you can see where what components need lubrication.

The driver pushes on the handle to activate the pump.

It lube'd the suspension to purge water after a schwimm.

There are no universal joints on a Schwimmwagen.

Thank you HeSa. From this drawing it looks like the top lid (no5) that pokes out through the front deck is "domed and smooth", with no logo/print on it... yet on "all" restored Schwimmers you see a printed, flat-top Willy Vogel lid. I do not understand how this really looks like..

I think you may be able to post the whole catalog right here on the Samba.

Brilliant information guys - I just bought a pump and am currently awaiting delivery. the one that came with my schwim was shaped like a puddle Sad
I will post pictures of the replacement when it arrives.

The picture may just be 'generic' - it is just a drawing after all. If the VW motor plant was anything like the rest of the motor industry they used whatever was available.

They did have occaisional supply problems too - one must be mindful that they were trying to build these while thousands of tons of high explosive fell from the sky every single day !

Done that with some other early catalogs. They do not appear in public due to copy right issues.
