I was reading the junkyard thread and was wondering if there should be a sticky for Buses that show up at the local junkyard. From what people are saying, these Buses are crushed fairly quickly after they end up in the junkyard. It would be important to get the word out as soon as someone sees one in the local junkyard.
Save the Whales, oops, I mean save the Buses.

We have 13 Sticky topics already, do we really need another? I already have to scroll down the screen to get to the new stuff. _________________ Eric

there is a smaller vw only yard (maybe 30 busses, 30 cars) in Fresno, CA.
The downfall of VW only yards, in my experience, is that they tend to be more expensive. |

There are two yards near Sandy that I know of, neither would qualify as being huge. I am not sure that either had any Bays the last time I stopped by. One did have several Vanagons that weren't too badly picked over, but the other had almost nothing of value. I did get one brand new mounted tire and two that had very low miles, but was unable to get anything else I was looking for. |

I haven't seen a bus in a wrecker in 10+ years around here, even then "around here" was a 3+ hr drive away, so any local yard with a bus would be considered huge _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I think this is one of most useful posts in a while. Has anyone besides me noticed the samba is exceptionally ripe with used parts for bays recently? If anyone lives in Vt. I can tell you where my first kid used to and may still reside, 78 Westy with 914 heads. I meant Bus. |

Complain about no good used parts around and when someone has held onto oem parts for a long time and wants a fair price for storing them.....but you call them super spendy, alot for parts.....go figure!

Be careful keeping junkyard buses a secret. They go fast because the junk yards crush cars based on how much money in scrap metal they will get. And since buses are heavy, they tend to get crushed first for the scrap metal money. So if we VW lovers get there first and strip off the good parts the yards will likely keep the buses around longer until they are totally stripped. |
really? seems to me they are very light for their size- consider that even a little cooper mini weighs more than a bus! |

I know of many buses in junk yards in florida. _________________ OGJHC

I'm starting to get little wafts of bus stink coming from the north. Something about the unique scent of drivers seat padding when it's glued together with mouse piss and shit that really gets me going... and I'm smelling it! Oh yeah! Time to start loading up the equipment. |

exactly. i dont keep it a secret just so i can watch good parts go to the crusher.
i find the bus, look it over and go scrape together as much money as i can. then when i go back a few days later, i can make a package deal. |
