I looked in this: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php
And can't find any info on this transmission. I was trying to figure out what year is is? The number serial # is: A0034690

Above that it looks like this:

46
113-301-103
D

Any ideas? I think it's a 68 bug or KG? If I measure the axles would someone know? I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

My reference sheets suggest it is a 3.88 R&P unit from a Karman Ghia. Installed after 8/70.

That's cool. What reference sheet did you use? I was getting different numbers from different spec sheets online.

I have the same question. I cant find any reference to my trans #9641947 in the vin# tech section. I think its a 67 (long axles, 5 bolt) but was wanting some confirmation.

Sorry about the hijack Very Happy

Sorry. The reference sheets I have refer to the AlphaAlphaXXXXX style of trans identification numbers. The numbers only style reference I dont have.

I have 2 sheets, from different sources, that have similarities but dont share errors.

4.375 from a 1300 car, up to 08/70

A lot of this info is available from several sources online. It often conflicts so you may have to use the dartboard method to decide who to believe.

This comes up a lot. The trans code above is A, zero, zero, three....... It is not A, oh,......
So the original gearbox is not from a Ghia with a 3.88.

Interesting... I'll keep looking for info then on that one.

I also picked up a new transmission with a serial number of 9500991
The axles have straight shock mount arms like on a 67. So maybe a 67?

I'm having the same problem I have an old swing axle and cant seem to locate the number on the list. Mine is H0162661 any ideas? I'm trying to figure out the gear ratios..... btw it's a tunnel case. I'm not sure what it came out of either, the rear suspension was given to me with transaxle included.

Can anyone help me out? I picked up a transaxle that I was told came out of a 64 Type 1, but I'm not sure. Here's the info I have

The case has the following number cast into it: 113-301-103
The number stamped on the case is: 5254276

The nose cone has the following number cast into it: 113-301-211 E with the number 7 stamped above it. Does this mean that the case and the nose cone came from two different lots?

What year did this transaxle come from?
How can I tell if I have long or short axles?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adrian

The 113 #s are the part #s of the case and nosecone - ignore those.

5254276 looks like Oct., 1962 from the Beetle VIN listing, under the "Rear Axle" column

Noticed the references to the Alpha number. Mind if I ask where on the tranny that number is stamped. I felt lucky to find the 34/113 301 103/E numbers on the right side of the tranny case.
Thank you.

I am trying to figure out if my transmission is a 12V OG for a late 66 or a 67 transmission.
