I'm looking for an oil filler cap that allows the engine to breathe, and fits on the stock VW oil filler. I see ones for V8's at every parts place, but nothing that fits the VW. Anyone??

huh? the factory vw oil filler already has a breather tube. depending on year, it either vents downward into the air stream under the car, or it vents upward through a hose and into the air cleaner.

post a photo of your engine here. i'm guessing you probably have parts missing, or have some crappy aftermarket filler w/o a breather?

Not exactly, it's a new build.
I'm venting the 1-2 valve cover to the breather fitting on the stock oil filler, and I'm using the filler that doesn't have the draft tube because I don't like them (designed to leak, designed to fail, IMO). Plus the engine just looks simpler/cleaner without it.
I can't vent to my aircleaners because I wont be running any Smile

Thanks for the link, but I'd like to retain the stock filler/breather since this is a period correct sort of build. Billet parts are also out.

I just spent the afternoon working on a 57 Fairlane Skyliner. the oil cap was a chromed, dome style breather cap with two spring clips sticking out the bottom to hold it into the valve cover. You might find something like that to use.

Those are very common, and would be perfect for my application but unfortunately they do not fit the VW filler.

I saw that and called Scat about a month ago, the guy said they hadn't had those caps in months, maybe years. I did pick up a NOS "chrome dome" cap here on the samba a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it's sealed.

Does anyone know if a breather style cap was ever made as a replacement for the stock cap?

Thanks for the link, but no, that replaces the oil filler as well. I want to retain the stock oil filler, just replace the cap.

I already did. Berg offers breathers that use the stock cap, and the domestic style breather cap.

I would just buy one for a V8 and make it so that it would fit a VW.

But that is just me.

That has crossed my mind... I'll pick one up this week and give it a shot... at least they're cheap.

I'll let you know how it goes...

I run a press-on breather cap (came with the oil fill extender) I bought in the 1970s on my 1835cc engine. I cannot remember the source.
