Pat,
Any plans to have a crank fire trigger to go along with your quicktune system so you will eliminate the distributor all together and the possible potential of timing scatter from play in the distributor/drive etc.. ? |
Yes, We are working on a stand alone coil on plug crank trigger kit at the moment. This system will be available some time near the end of the year. |
Hi Pat,
When this new crank trigger system is ready, are you planning on it being compatible with the current Quicktune ECU?
Thanks |

The ignition is not crank triggered, it is a distributor with built in electronics and map sensor. You can program your own timing map and down load it to the distributor. The distributor also has a built in high end rev limmiter and 2-step rev limmiter. We will be coming out towards the end of the year/ early next year with a coil on plug crank trigger kit that will work with our EFI. |

Pat, this interests me very much... I bought a quicktune early on in the release, will it be able to be updated to work with future doo-dads? (crossing my fingers!!) _________________

Why wait, Ed and myself and converting his car right now. It's not hard to do, just think about it for a minute... _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Which type / heat range spark plug (long reach) is recommended for this system? Also, what spark plug gap works best on a non-turbo application?
Or does it not matter? Instructions only mention plug wires must be suppression type. Just wanted to check about the plug choice.
Thanks. |

Hi Pat,
does the EFI software work under MAC osx with the parallel-desktop+winXP installed inside ? I`m allergic to Bill Gates !
BTW, if I have a brand new engine, can I use the EFI to fire it up the 1st time for the 30 mins break in ?
I just finished a 1776 for my SB and I`m considering one of your kits+EFI for my bus.
Thanks

Hi,
I can't answer for the break in of your engine but as for the apple part, I'm using a Macbook Pro 13" with VMware Fusion + win XP Pro and it works great.
The picture was taken under windows 7 but its just too slow... Switched to XP, its much faster now.
I would not recommend it on a macbook air since the lack of power would probably be an issue with realtime monitoring of the EFI.

Hi,
You don't need to take out a dreadfull windows machine, just set up VMware fusion and windows XP and be on your way... The plus side being that you can enjoy the battery life...
Just think to switch of energy saving on the screen or it will turn black every 2 min... Which is annoying...

i have it running in Snow leopard 10.6 using 'Parallels'. I havent tried Bootcamp as its antiquated in comparison. Also have it running on VMware on a yellow dog linux so does ok on that platform.
Personally i wouldnt use my good macbook as its going to be lying in the van or in the garage _________________ |©¯¯©| & (Ө\ ! /Ө)

Does anyone know if they plan to make the software iPad compatable?
I'd love to be able to mount the iPad on the dash to monitor head temps, a/f ratio etc - much easier than having a laptop rolling around on the seat.

Your injector PW figures are meaningless without knowing the injector size... _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

I am running 51 lb injectors and idle just fine. I think he should be fine with 52's. If he's a turbo motor going for over 200 hp, he'll need them. _________________ Eric Allred

I believe CB supplied 63lb injectors for my turbo/EFI.... it's what Pat decided was necessary... _________________
