Barrett Jackson doesn't even entertain me... if I want to watch people be stupid with their money, well, there's plenty of other avenues for that besides a richy-rich playground like BJ. Lol.

Classic Car Guy- When you're in town for the auction stop by the Pavilions sometime on Saturday. We should have a group of at least a dozen locals parked on the north side. Stop and introduce yourself. We usually show up at 4AM to get a spot. The place is filled by about sunup.

Unless it has changed hands, the owner lives in Scottsdale so he is a local.

Some of those VWs sound pretty enticing. Barrett Jackson is like the circus, and that fact that they got as mainstream as they did is why people spend stupid money on their cars. Thankfully Mecum hasn't and hopefully won't get like that (They shouldn't I went to college with Dana's son).

Though one Non VW that will be interesting to see where it goes, well two will be the Tucker and General Lee #1. I can see 7 figure bids for both.

You could substitute "the internet" or "TheSamba.com" or "eBay" for "these auctions". I've heard all of those many times over. Prices aren't as low as they used to be for anything.

And, the prices realized at BJ are the way over the top exception rather than the rule.

But, it's been this way since probably the late 1960s. There was an earlier collector car auction called "Kruse", which, if memory serves, Barrett and Jackson started off as major consignors to Kruse. I think eBay used the "Kruse" name (or a variant thereof- pun intended) as an eBay authorized consignor at the new eBay Motors beginning in about 2003.

It's always been a "cottage industry" thing- an exclusive "rich boy's showroom" sort of thing which most of the general public has been nearly completely ignorant of until about the last ten years.

Believe me- BJ does NOT set the standard as to what these cars are "worth" locally on the street any day. I'd like to run some cars through there so I could retire, though! Laughing

Dana Mecum is a great guy, and Frank is too, I deal with him all the time when i go. i have been doing business with them for yrs, i go to all his sales, and buy a good number of cars, sold a bunch with him too, the best thing about his deal is he works every car on the block from start to end, you think you would see Craig Jackson do that??? Rolling Eyes I most definitly think not! I do a lot with B-J and been selling there for 20+ yrs because it brings all the money due to all the hype/circus acts thats why im there, to make coin, money, denaro... and thats the bottom line!! Cool

Didn't that bus get the BJ treatment a few years back? The previous owner lives in Scottsdale if it's the same bus and will probaly be at BJ's to try and buy it back. Sold for 27k I think.

I didn't see you show up and introduce yourself to the VW group. Yes it was much more packed than last few years. We all park to the north and barely got in at 8:30. Normal Saturdays the Dubs park where the BJ rig was parked. Because of the bigger crowd, next week we're planning on 1 or 2 Am instead of past years 4AM.
What were you driving when the special BJ cruise drove in? Some funny cars in that group. Stock Henry J's, Kaisers, Frazers, etc. Not the normal Custom car and hotrods we usually see. Probably not everyday a cruise gets Police escorts also. Is it all to get buyers super jazzed up?
Another question- Had been curious about the Russo Steele storm disaster a couple years ago. The outcome seemed to have been kind of a secret but just heard that the total damage was around 100 million. Is that right?

I see that 23-Window is now in the auction list.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlines...&pop=0

There is also a 21-Window there too.
Looks like the same one that's been for sale here locally in Scottsdale, AZ, if I remember right the asking price was $55K. Maybe the auction will work for them.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlines...&pop=0

'59 Vert sold today for $30K
