okay so since I got my car I have been having to re gap the point every month but the last time I did it I noticed that it still kept cutting out in the higher rpms (near the shift mark) so I took it to the air cooled vw mechanic here and he test the vacuum advance and it didn't hold a vacuum at all and he was telling me that my distribute is a .008 and the kind that came originally for that years was .007 but when I look for replacements all I can find is the .009 with that work? or will the advances off the other ones will work on this one _________________ 78' Type 2 "little buggie"

NO an 009 is a mechanical ONLY
you need a vacuum advanced one
either you can find a vacuum advance can or an entire distributor
take a look at the link above
It will tell you EXACTLY what dizzy you have or need
AND bug vaccuum cans ARE NOT THE SAME
they have a higher vacuum signature _________________ 74 Mexi Swamp Thing. 70 square volksrod (Swamp Rat)..65 C10

I think the vacuum can will work fine. I recently swapped mine out for the "correct" one and I noticed no change in engine performance. |

If you can't find 1 in the classifieds, you might try ordering 1 from Autozone. I think they're only about 55 bucks. I'd order it up for a 70 though, as it'll have a better advance curve. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Ouch, they had mine in, in 2 days. You might try O'Rielly's, or NAPA then. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

This is my barn find! Found it last summer (2011). Wife suggested I pick it up. I paid $200 for it. The guy helped me get it out. Phoenix AZ heat, two tires that didn't hold air, and the other two only for a few hours. We installed two tires from my Super to get it out of the back yard and onto a trailer.
It was last registered in the mid 80s!
