|
|
Hello everyone,
I want to send off for a birth certificate for a split beetle to find out what the history was and verify if my engine is correct. How do I do this?? Anyone have the address and the cost I need to send?
Also, did anyone ever see a standard model split marked with model 11/12A that had all the deluxe stuff on it including hydrolic brakes, the full headliner even around the split window inside, adjustable track seats, aluminum side trim, chrome bumpers, ivory speedo and clock, and deluxe steering wheel that everything was really really old? Like someone just didn't try to make it a deluxe? My car is like that. Tim |

if you send them the engine numbers you have they will confirm if its the original motor or not.
once i gave them my credit card they confirmed all info on car by email the next day
when i got the birth cert. they wrote on a separate sheet of paper that it was indeed the original motor . |

Thank you! Very good info. Do they tell you the dealership it came from? Like if it is a Hoffman car from New York? |

Is this from your car? I always wanted a split ragtop. Would sell my 1950 to buy one. I can't wait to get my info back. I sent it in electronically 2 days ago. Thanks! Tim |

THEY SHOULD EMAIL YOU ALL THE INFO IN A FEW DAYS. THEY WILL ALSO CONFIRM THE MOTOR ON A SEPARATE DOCUMENT.
GOOD LUCK ON IT BEING A HOFFMAN CAR.
THIS CAR IS THE OLDEST ONE ON WIGGYS HOFFMAN LIST. I STILL DONT KNOW WHEN HOFFMAN GOT HIS FIRST SHIPMENT ?
BUT I BELIEVE THIS CAR IS HOFFMENS FIRST SUNROOF.
BILL PICKERING WHO BOUGHT IT FROM THE FIRST OWNER IN 1971 TOLD ME THAT HOFFMAN ONLY GOT TWO SUNROOFS IN 1950.
I DONT KNOW IF THATS TRUE OR NOT.
BUT ITS STILL ONE OF THE EARLEST SUNROOF CARS MADE.
HERE'S THE CAR IN IT'S EARLIER YEARS

Out of the 5 or so I ordered (most recent a couple months ago) I did not receive a single email from them.
And your birth cert is different from mine. Mine only said USA and then listed all options they applied to it to make it "US specs".

It looks like you have a KM speedo instead of MPH? If thats original, its not a Hoffman car. _________________ Kevin "Wiggy"

Note that those M code lists on these certificates are notoriously innacurate, i highly doubt that any splits had "Chrome plated outlet PIPES" my Hoffmann Standard certificate lists only option M 020 MPH speedo but was equipped with chromed bumpers, if you have hydraulic brakes, seat rails and side trims you have a deluxe, are you saying that your serial number tag in the trunk is stamped "10/11A" instead of "10/12C" if so perhaps its a misprint _________________ There is an idea of a Billmetric; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there... |

Exactly, the code i nthe trunk is a bit hard to read but it says 10 / 11 A. I have seat rails, side trim, hydrolic brakes, ivory dash pods, full headliner, etc. It has to be a deluxe. Curious to see the birth certificate. Tim |

On older ones they wrote "VW Distributing Co. in NY"
Here is one from 2000 on a car I have since sold:
Good luck, keep us posted,

My birth certificate got sent off from Germany ywo days ago. I messed up the first time and got one digit wrong. Hard to read under the seats. But I compared the number to the plate up front and dang, I had a wrong number by one digit. a 7 was actually a 9. My car is coded as 10/11A deluxe parts thru out, hydrolic brakes. Was purchased new in New York according to the owner and is an April 1950 car. ???? We will see. I will let everyone know. Tim |
