Maybe just new cv boots, cv's are tough, don't replace unless they "clunk". definite cleaning needed, though.

Get a new one!! They are forsale in classifieds. New!!

Your Plugs seem to show your runnin lean?? I would get her sniffed and adjust mixture accordingly.

Yeah, the thermostat is goners! I just went & peaked at it now that it's cold & it's blown out for sure.

I'm going to set the timing then possibly drive the bus down to a local tune-up shop & see if they can hook it up to there diagnostics machine, but i did want to get it cleaned up and somewhat respectable looking before i drove it in.

As for the CV's, what do you think? They aren't making noise now that i can tell, but these were in the back of the bus when i got it. I'm going to swap the boots for sure anyway. Maybe i'll just keep these on the shelf for a rainy day.

Cleaned up the under side of the engine today. I scraped the heater boxes & tin down with a razor blade then rubbed them down with some lacquer thinner & painted them.

Replaced this oil soaked OPS, and was hoping that it was what was leaking, but i think oil cooler seals are next.

Tore the engine down a bit so i could replace the oil cooler seals & weld up the exhaust pipes (hacked out the CAT). I ended up putting it all back together minus the AC for now, but she sounds much better & doesn't leak oil anymore Very Happy

Just checked out this thread for the first time today; awesome bus and great pictures! Looks like your restoration is going really well; your attention to detail while cleaning and painting is admirable. Keep on keeping on, and nice work! Smile

Yeah, the bus is coming right along. My friend gets all the credit for the pans, he paints for a living & i'm known to leave runs in my paint Laughing I think he used epoxy primer & clear. They do look pretty sweet though huh!

As for the BA6 i haven't done much. I pulled off the exhaust pipe from it & a buncha rust came out. Also found a tear in the rubber boot thingy right where the wires are sticking out of it. You can see in the right side of this pic

I think i'm going to just pop the whole thing out of there and try to make it run on the bench.

Decided to replace all these crispy old vacuum lines & in the process found a big leak in the tube going to the aux. air valve. The tube was like what i use on my fish pond pump & was barely zip tied on there.

Then i hammered out a the little dent in the side from under the back seat & tatted it up with some of that paint too. Not a perfect match but it'll work until i get some paint mixed up if i ever fix the nose up all nice.

PostPosted: Thu Aug 15, 2013 2:45 pm    Post subject: GAS HEATER!!!! Reply with quote

Got the gas heater laying here. The fuel pump spits gas, i've got a bunch of wires & i was hoping to make a quick wiring harness so i can make it run. Do i need to remove the switch from the dash & all the wiring loom to hook this up proper, or does anyone have a simpler way to bench test them? I found some black & white wiring diagrams that are pretty hard to figure out.

I love you guys out in Oregon....you just happen across an old bus that looks like it has been in a ditch for 20 years, pull it out and with some elbow grease find the original paint under the wheel arches to be far better than my bus has ever looked. You have no idea (or maybe you do) what it is like to live on the east coast where rust eats these things alive.

Will someone please keep an eye out for me for a 78-79 deluxe westy out there? It can be ratty, no engine, no trans, no interior...just a clean, rust free body and beam. I'll toss in a finders fee too. Wink

Great bus and good luck!

Did you forget where oregon is ? like west coast.

That big ol ocean out here is not fresh water. What we don't have is salted hyways. it freeze's or snows we're just SOL. The plus here is the rusted cars of any brand, come off the coast. There's a large mountain range within a mile of the ocean, which blocks the salt air.

so 10 miles inland and your out of the cancer zone.. but the rain .. these buses here just like you, when they sit the windshield, floors rain gutters so on get rusted out just like any where else
