Hi Guys,

Have not been here in some time. My 84 Vanagon conversion has been done for 2 years of trouble free service. EJ22 small car set up, very happy with it. My new project is a 1971 Pop top. I am 52, drove 3 of these cross country over the years since the 1980's. Doing this one up for my wife and will keep both. Daily driver is a TDI Sport wagon. OK, my question. I redid the brake system, this car has sat for 15 years. I did front hoses, lines, calipers, master cyl, brake booster, rear wheel cylinders, shoes and pads, brake hardware, e-brake cables. Bleeding I get good fluid from the fronts and the left rear. When my wife holds the pedal it is right at the top and drops accordingly when you crack the bleeders, except for the RR. This one you just get a tiny pop of fluid. With her holding the pedal down I can turn that drum, not the other three wheels. The only thing I have not changed is the rear flex hoses. Any ideas?? The only thing I have not changed is the rear flex hoses.

Change the rear hoses

Thanks for the quick reply. Do these hoses collapse internally? I kind of anticipated this response, but have been wondering how a blockage could occur. I will pull both since they are the only components left!

Hoses degrade internally. For your water cooled cars it's the same with radiator hoses. They will look great on the outside but not be great. A pair of rear hoses is less than $40. Change them.

Hi Aeromech,

New flex hose did the trick! Thank you very much. Incidentally I taught my self to fly with an ultra light which I later affixed pontoons to. Busses are much safer!
