Spending this much time, effort and money on restoring a car means restoring everything that is damaged.
BUT no way will the original ID plate be discarded! _________________ Rod,

That looks good Mika, I will hold off any further progress in the UK on the grounds that you will make an excellent job in the end.
Hopefully I will see you over the weekend at Bad Camberg.

They were steel not aluminium, at least mine was on the '46.
And yes there were quite a few slight variations over those early years. _________________ Rod,

Yes, I know they were steel originally. Was thinking that aluminium is easier etched. However I managed to only get a first kind of good transfer of the negative print on a steelplate...
So, this is my first attempt on steel. Might try another later...

This is an issue that has never been fully resolved, and there is somebody in Sweden trying to have them remanufactured at the moment, without any luck. |

Yes. He's been in contact with me too. We'll see what comes out from this.
This first test was not bad for my purpose as it does have a genuine patina look. However I can understand the demand for flawless plates too I know more soon when I experiment some more.
When I get the final finish on that first test it might be a perfect pair to this...
