If I recall correctly, he told me that he was the manufacture of that trim material, and he had the extrusion dies to make it, but didn't have any plans to manufacture more any time soon.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I made that up.

Has anyone considered asking the current owners of Delta Six if they acquired the dies for these items when they took over?

On a more positive note, the bumper hollow style from Reimo has been shipped to my friend in Belgium. As soon as he gets it he will forward it to me. I am just hoping it's the right color.

I will post some images later.

I've been in the process of ordering that same thicker cushion tee (as I call it) from Reimo. I hope its really similar to what we need.

From another thread

Busdepot wrote:
The Skylight Guy and Delta Six are not gone, but their focus has changed. As some of you may know, Trevor and Cheri divided their VW efforts among three areas - producing original Delta Six replacement parts for Westfalia campers, producing poptop skylights for the same, and retailing various VW products in their online store. We at the Bus Depot worked closely with them, distributing their products in the U.S. and supplying many of the products that they sold online in Canada.

Trevor and Cheri have decided to go out of the retail business in order to spend more time traveling in their Westy and enjoying other pursuits. Most of the items in their online store are available from The Bus Depot. (In fact they bought many of them from us in the first place, such as the aforementioned gray water tanks). To better serve the Canadian market, we have expanded our toll-free order desk line to work from Canada and negotiated steep discounts to Canada with Fedex. (Those discounts may not be reflected in the web checkout for some time, but please feel free to email Fred at [email protected] right after placing your order. He can quote you and adjust your shipping charge before your order is actually processed.)

As for the products that Trevor and Cheri produce - the Delta Six replacement camper parts such as inlets, faucets, etc., plus the Skylight Guy poptop skylights - all or most of them will continue to be available through the Bus Depot. We have bought the Delta Six trademark, molds, and tooling, and plan to keep the brand and OEM products alive. Trevor and Cheri will continue to assemble the parts for us in Canada using the original molds, as they always have, in periodic batches between their other endeavors. While this may result in sporadic stockouts - time will tell - it will keep the products available to the VW community. Trevor also intends to continue making skylights as time allows, which we will of course continue to sell.

Trevor and Cheri are great people and all of us in the VW community owe them a tremendous debt for the over-and-above work they did to save the OEM Delta Six product line, which was at death's door before they revamped all of the molds and tooling, updated the products for the 21st century, and kept these rare OEM parts alive when nobody else would step up to the plate. Were it not for their tremendous effort and expertise, many stock replacement parts for our campers would be gone forever. It is the Bus Depot's intention to keep that dream alive.

You can find most of the OEM Delta Six products and Skylight Guy skylights on our Delta Six page http://www.busdepot.com/details/deltasix/. This transition is very new (as of January 1, 2015), but over time we hope to expand the Delta Six line with additional OEM products. If you have any difficulty finding products on BusDepot.com that Trevor and Cheri used to offer, please don't hesitate to email Fred at [email protected] and he can point you in the right direction.

thanks for the suggestion though, keep them coming!

I know they aren't currently making them, but I wonder if they have the dies that were originally used?

If so, perhaps someone could get the "real deal" manufactured again?

I just got an email from Frank Condelli that he is going to place an order from Germany and can order some of this stuff. But he needs to hear by Friday this week. Try giving him a call maybe?

It is still unclear to me if the molding is dunkel grau or mittel grau.

I contacted the good folks at Gunzl (http://www.vwbusshop.de/en_GB) about the edge moulding on their website. Here's what they say:

"The Rim profile for 333000341 maybe will fit (ie we are not quite sure), but the color do not match."

The rim profile they refer to is what one would put on the cabinet doors. The item noted in their email is described in the catalog as "Rim profile, 175cm, plate height 17mm." So now we know about the color and as for the fit, well, I guess you just have to try it.

So what happened with the final follow up on the materials from Europe?

Dobryan and SyncroChrick never reported how the goods turned out and its been months! Don't leave this great story hanging.

All,

sorry about the delay. I was hoping to do a better post with pictures but I have not had the chance yet.

So I don't think I have any good news. This has been very frustrating.

T-Molding:

I received many different t-molding but not one that is exactly the same. It's either the wrong share (too light or too dark) or the wrong width.

that said, there is one option that seems to be really close but it was out of stock about one month ago and she asked me to check back in a month so it's about that timeframe. I just sent an email.

Edge:

I received some edge molding from the UK but they are a darker color. It would work if you were doing an entire van but it won't match the existing color.

Bumper T-Molding:

I have not received those ones yet - my friend has been too busy I guess. He got them delivered to his house in Belgium but that's it so far. I am going to send him a reminder right now.

I received mine but was in the midst of trip prep so I didn't even get around to looking at it carefully. I'm in the Yukon now and the T moulding is in Maryland.... Very Happy

I recently received my order from Gunzl. I ordered both of these items:

http://www.vwbusshop.de/epages/GuenzlClassicParts..../333000340

http://www.vwbusshop.de/epages/GuenzlClassicParts..../333000341

The first one (13mm height) is the correct color of grey for cabinet doors or drawers edging. Unfortunately it is a bit too narrow, but will work if you don't mine a very small inside edge of your door (drawer) to be exposed. The wider 17mm edging is too light in color.

SyncroChrick,

I PM'd you and wanted to share what I have been tracking down. I have samples coming as well and thought maybe we could combine efforts and be a bit more efficient.

I have also gone to a local manufacturer and had the item quoted for local fabrication. Sent them a CAD file and had a few discussions regarding material etc.

I sent you a PM via FB as well.

Thanks for your update

The title of this thread should be 50 Shades of Grey!

I have looked at samples from Reimo and Gunzl and none of them match the US Grey trim color. Whatever was used back then is not in production as far as I have looked.

One option is to use a vinyl paint and I purchased some on a recommendation of another poster. That grey is not correct either but I am looking for a closer match.

The trim I have sourced samples of in the picture attached are given row by row.

Row 1: GoWesty T-Trim/Gunzl Dark Grey Door Trim/Reimo Dark Grey
Row 2: Reimo Mid Grey/ Original Westfalia Trim/Gunzl Dark Grey T-Trim
Row 3: Gunzl Grey/Reimo Silver

The Silver color was pretty close but has a metal flake mixed in. What Gunzl calls "Dark Grey" in it's door edge trim is closer yet to the original but is not available as other trim types. It is also the wrong plate width, 13mm only where the original plate width is 17mm. The Dark Grey samples from Reimo and Gunzl of the T type trim are much too dark and the mid grey samples are all too light.

The paint options are from SEM and include a cleaner, color and clear coat. The colors shown here did not work but the flexibility and adherence of the paint were very good. I am ordering other colors to try and match better.
