Has anyone had any luck replacing the lever spring on the seat bottom for my 59 rag. Yes I know.....why would anyone even remove it? Thanks to a PO I need to replace mine. I have tried and tried to wind the spring and slip it into the slot on the lever with no luck. I am about to begin looking for a new seat frame! I have spent too much time on this and all I have to show for it is a mangled spring!
Thanks
Bruce

| Did you ever find a solution for your seat spring issue? I have a seat with a bad spring and I’m in the same boat. Hoping you didn’t have to replace your seat frame! |

Is this the correct spring? https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/us/113881275c-...anism.html
Have you been able to find new frames anywhere? I can only seem to find used ones. Mine has no springs & the previous owner used sheet metal screws to keep them from moving. |

| I've done it, but it is a pain. If you had a helper, one of you could preload the spring while the other tap it in small hammer and screwdriver. |

The original spring is part number 113 881 243 and is now unobtainium. I was not able to find one anywhere.
I followed the advice of an old thread here and went to Ace Hardware to search through their assortment of springs. I found a couple that I thought I could make work and then dove into a several hour wrestling match. It was touch and go for a solid couple of hours but I finally subdued the spring and won (for now). It’s a pain in the backside for sure and my fingers are sore this morning from the contest.
If it keeps the seat from sudden, unplanned disengagements I’ll be happy. |

Thanks for the part #. I tried to google & came up empty but I wonder what it looks like. Since I've never seen them I wouldn't know what to look for at the hardware store. |

Here are two photos of the spring. One end is straight and goes into the seat frame next to the adjustment shaft while the other end goes into a hole in the lever shaft.
