I couldn't disagree more. He and his crew are responsible for some of the nicest VW interiors. One just should not expect perfect match of materials. They know how to tailor kits for end installers quite well. _________________

You paid $200 for the car I did a little research about Lenny, and I wouldn't buy from him. Apparently he does some iffy work... |
$1500/5=$300. I'm thinking about just pulling the original covers off, upholstery glue some of the old canvas from my Westy pop-top to the backside of the torn areas, and put them back on. _________________ Kenneth

I thought the kits were $1000, either way you got the car for cheap . Hitest, did you read the last page of his review thread, it's pretty bad...

I haven't read much about his feedback since I raved him several years ago. Largely feedback is good- but yes, that Ghia story is a terrific exception. I recall a few years ago people were griping about his slow phone call returns- and it coincided with him spending time in the hospital after falling off a ladder! My local trimmer has had numerous successes with him over the years too. I'd definitely try him again- but can use latest feedback to be a cautious customer. _________________

I was told to be aware of him, so I looked at the thread. It was good, but I noticed it was from a few years ago so I went to the last page and so that ghia story as well. I did not know he fell off a ladder, that is certainly a reason to be slow with calls! _________________ '67 Beetle L41

A couple boxes arrived from Europe. Time to put some ultra rare parts on the rusty crusty Bug.

Spring is here, time to make the car roadworthy. Ordered a set of new narrow whitewall tires to replace the 30+ year old dry rotted ones that came with the car.

I used Lenny for Covers on my wife's 64 in that brown cord pattern.....
Transaction went flawless and you will not find better quality seat covers.

Making a little more progress. Swapped out the hacked up radio delete plate for a nicer one.
Started mocking up the Saxomat parts on a spare transmission. All I had was the brackets, the rest is autostick and misc. hardware.

Pulled the engine to clean out the mouse nest under the tin. While it was out I painted the tin, cleaned the fan shroud, freshened the hoses, replaced the muffler, and added a couple things.

I picked a '64 carcass clean ( its from a junkyard in MN) and have one of those stripy seatbacks. the bottom was black I think. _________________ Currently:

I think I've finally got the clutch and shifter adjusted properly. I've put over 100 miles on it so far.
Pedal to the metal.
Off-the-shelf hand controls don't work well with pedals hinged at the floor, so I had to make a couple modifications.
I finally washed it today.

Never seen hand controls on a ACVW. Is that something you require or something it came with and you wanted to use? Just make sure any modifications are secure. I had a old bronco turned mail truck you could drive from the passenger side, but it was kinda janky and scared me a few times when the links moved/flexed.
Anyway cool car. I just picked up a metal sunroof '64 myself and look forward to getting it on the road! |

I had to install the hand controls. You've probably never seen a '64 with 2 pedals either. _________________ Kenneth

So, how is the Saxomat working for you? My convertible was an autostick for the first few years that I owned it. _________________ Brian
