Well picked up a 1963 Kombi White L87 manufactured September 1962.. Needs some rust repair which has been started and needs a few more repairs that I will take care of. The Bus is pretty straight and is pretty solid compared to other busses I have seen lately. So I am gonna hit this one hard to get it on the road and enjoy. Starting off with a good cleaning and degreasing.
Here are some pics of when I stopped for breakfast after picking it up

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes I will be stripping the black off to see what's under there. Hopefully some nice og pearl white with some patina. Yes it is a good start being that it's pretty solid Thank God! Uli it was a pleasure meeting you today bud. Hopefully we can cruise our rides to upcoming shows
Here are a few more pics I took today of cleaning, and getting luggage area stripped and prepped for paint. Wire wheel, degreasing, metal ready and por15.

deluxe coat hook?? looks pretty solid. Good luck on the paint striping. It looks like some surface rust is showing thru the black, so it may not have a lot of white left. |

Thanks EmpiGT, Coat hook may be coming out , going full commercial on this guy with CLARA grey panels and no piping on grey seat covers. Yeah there is surface rust showing in some places more than others. May have to take down some areas and etch prime then epoxy coat then paint. May have to work each panel to see what I got. Will try tomorrow have a big day cant wait |

I just noticed something else about your bus I don't think I've ever seen before. The forward 2 windows in cargo area on both sides are popouts and the rear window on both sides are stationary. Usually the just the opposite of that or all 6 are popouts. Interesting to see if the hinges are removed and stationary windows put in or came that way |

EmpiGT not sure bud, rear stationary seals seem og and crusty. I will take some close pics and have a better look at hinge mounts for all of them. I have to get those channels cleaned and prepped anyway good eye. I am just happy its an early 63 with narrow hatch, outy vents and decently solid for the year. Was hyped up today to get some work done, so put on the ear buds, music and got some wire wheeling with the grinder done today with the Por15 3 step process for the luggage area. Had only 5 spot welds to my surprise and 2 hole were drilled holes. Some pitting but held up well to the wire wheel and with this treatment and Por15 top coating, then topped with some rustoleum white then edged out with L87 should hold up for many more years. I left the metal ready on for 20 minutes and kept wet the whole 20 minutes. I then got a scuff pad and scuffed the whole area then wiped clean with rag. Then finished wiping down with cleaner and then por15. Should come out nice, looked like the metal was nicely etched and prepped for paint. This Por15 is Awesome stuff.

looking much better already. Once that is painted primer grey it will be perfect. M502 panels will look awesome with your commercial seats.

Hopefully someone can chime in. While working on my cargo floors I noticed it is set up for a full middle seat. I am not sure if this is normal for a walk thru Kombi and would like to see if anyone has a pic or thread that shows this. I went through the middle seat thread and searched through Kombi's in forums but was not lucky. Here is a pic of my floor, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Peter
Update: Found this not sure if correct and later model as well.

Well kept on searching and found the answer in the Dictionary under the Technical tab. It says that not all Kombi walk through are guaranteed to come with a short middle seat. Thanks again to EverettB and its members for this Great Site.

Got some work done today but the cargo floor paint is no joke. It seems at some point they used a fiber glass resin then paint and it's a mission to get off.
I was able to detail the edges today and hopefully finishing the rest of the paint removal in the center tomorrow. I will cut out the rusted sections make repairs and patch. Trying to hustle on this Bus
