I've been reading a lot but a lot of different info. Some say adjustable on drivers side and non on passenger side. I just néed to know which to buy so I can place order. I have a left hand drive 1973 beetle sedan. Installed new axle but need rest of parts to complete. Thanks |

I don't have a SB...but on my Rabbit the non-adjustable side is replaced with an adjustable one. ie. they are both alike, same part #s, and adjustable. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia

It's a standard not super. I'm just not positive what to order. I assume adjustable as well |

I’m not sure I understand the question?? Each of the four tie rod ends is ajustable.
Here is a pic of the STD Beetle front suspension:
You can see the short and long tie rods and at each end there is a tie rod end. You can see a clamp or a nut at the end of the rod where it connects with the threads of the tie rod end. This clamp/nut allows the overall length of the tie rod+ ends to be adjusted by loosening the clamps/nuts and rotating the rod. The clamp ends are LH threaded while the nut end if RH threaded. You can see the RH threaded tie rod ends are at the inside end of both rods and the LH threaded ends are near the wheels. IIRC, each of the tie rod ends are different. So make sure you order the correct parts. _________________ AshMan40

The reason I asked was when I was looking to purchase some said adjustable and others said non adjustable. I started to do some looking and got a bit confused and wanted to verify before I purchased. Relative new owner here. I did order a set of adjustable tie rods. Haven't had the need to get into the suspension and steering part of the rebuild until now. Thanks for the response and the diagram. I'll post more questions I'm sure as I move forward. Thank you. Great resource |

Sorry, I initially misunderstood what you were looking for. You were asking about complete tie rods (L and R) w/ ends. Most people just replace their tie rod ENDS when they go bad. The "rods" themselves don't normally wear out. Though they can get rusty or bent and need to be replaced.
Both stock STD Beetle tie rods are adjustable as mentioned above. They really shouldn't be advertised as adjustable or non-adjustable. They just are adjustable.
This is different for Super Beetles. Some of the SBs came with three tie rods. One of these was non-adjustable. The tie rod ends were an integral part of the rod itself. The adjustments were made via the other two tie rods. You can see this in the diagram below. The rod that runs between the steering box and the idler arm is non-adjustable.
But you weren't looking for SB parts, right?
Maybe you can post a link to the parts you ordered? _________________ AshMan40

Beetle sedan part's not super. I thought about changing just the ends but figured I'd just start new. I ordered from Cip1 on their recommendation as well. Not sure why they were advertised as not adjustable. I've never run into that before. |
