I wish CB would redo their entire listings of cams. It is very difficult to understand what they offer and compare all their cams together to make a choice. I don't ever buy CB cams because the way they list them in groups is too difficult to navigate.
I hope Pat Downs reads this. CB website listing of their cams sucks. |
I agree. Good cams, but hard to wade through them on their site. This list makes it a little easier, but it is still missing some important numbers, and some of the cams listed dont jive with CB's site.

I started to do a Cam Chart in excel. You can sort by Cam lift, or any other drop down. I put in formulas to calculate all rocker sizes available based upon the cam lift. If anyone wants to finish and add all the cams, PM me and I can send the file.

That is genius jpaull. Exactly what is needed.
Click on the duration @ .05" and see all the cams available for your desired specs in one spot and compare them easily.
Well done.
Now someone with more time and computer smarts then me finish it for us!!

I'm pretty sure it's a Schneider. There was a thread on that number a few weeks back if I'm not mistaken. |
Could be, but I emailed it to Schneider and they said it wasn't theirs. |

They have not made a post on STF in a long time but you could try to message them. If they state information in detail ,I doubt they don't know what they are talking about but maybe they misspoke.

The FK10 does not match the catalog specs.

| No mention of Engle's V-26, just Berg's version, the GB 309. Is it no longer relevant? |

You can still get the V-26 directly from Engle. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I too have an old Crane Cam card.
I'll do my best to get things correct;
VW-282-NC clearance intake .04, ex. .06
intake @ CAM 360/407 with 1.13 ratio
exhaust @ CAM 360/407 with 1.13 ratio
cam timing @ .014 tappet lift intake opens 40 btdc, closes 62 abdc, 282 dur
exhaust opens 72 bbdc, closes 30 atdc 282 dur
cam timing @ .050 tappet lift intake opens 19 btdc closes 41 abdc 240 dur
exhaust " 51bbdc " 111 btdc 240 dur
No figures for Crane spring requirements or rpm figures given
Part # 760-0014 |

The .050 EC number doesn't work. Too many 1's. Using 10 or 11 the math works.

| What does small, medium and large displacement really mean in cc for air cooled VW engines? |
I’m thinking you are inquiring more tward the larger sized Type 2/4 engines of the later Bay Buses from your user name/avatar, but this thread is more along the lines of the Beetle/Type 1 engines. As far as they are concerned; imo small is 1915cc’s or less, medium is 1956-2110, and large is 2180-2386. These are the most common. There are 2442’s, 2498’s, and even 2789’s but the cost of the cranks, piston/cyl sets, case, and heads able to utilize the extra cc’s grow exponentially in price.
Maybe someone else can elaborate on the 2 liter based Bay Bus engines? |

That looks like a Bob Walters Dial-in-Cam. I have one in my engine and I also couldn't find anything online about it. You can find Dial-in-Cam advertisements in Hot VWs or VW trends magazines from the mid to late eighties. The ad I remember was for inline-4 VW water-cooled engines and won't help you decode your cam. |

the Autocraft 9526: The 297deg is at .050" lift. (not advertized).
It is a pro-stock cam.
Powerband from 5,500-10,000rpm. |

Hello, I realize this thread is old but wondering if anyone is out there to help identify another random cam and/or crank maker(s)?
I recently cracked open a "mystery engine" finding a lot of nice parts inside but cannot identify the crank or cam makers.
Engine was a 84x94, blow through dual dellorto 40mm carbs. 84mm crank was welded & offset ground based on a late model type one crank w/ VW and Audi stampings. It has "ECS 84" stamped on end counterweight and it's also wedgemated to a stock weight flywheel (STD/STD perfect condition).
The hydrolic cam has "4 6853 / P 7" stamping. I marked the lifters order prior to splitting the case, their faces look smooth and reusable and cam lobes do too. I believe the lifters are Chevy type as the lifter bores in case are way oversized plus 6x center shuffle pins, full flowed, drilled and tapped oil galleys & welded behind #3 = "super case" as we used to call them. It had 1:4 rockers and .300" super thick shims under the Mahle barrels. Heads are mismatched, assuming one melted down and was replaced at some point: clearly different combustion chamber volumes and shapes from one head to the other...
Planning on alignbore, all new bearings, new heads and bolting it back together BUT would really like to know more about the cam or crank.
Thank you guys!
Todd in Portland OR. |
