Perfectly legal to collect rainwater in all those states. Florida, Oregon and Utah.

Googled that lots of reading and a total ban on diesel by 2050. There is time and workarounds for those owning the older trucks. Will be interesting to see what happens. California was supposed to be 100% zero emissions but 2000 but look what happened. I’m betting oil lobbyists will weaken or quash this one too.

The people will hopefully quash this, but any help from the oil lobby will be appreciated. Next they will start banning our classic VWs, offering a token reward for crushing them. Next will be all gasoline cars. This needs to be nipped in the bud. It isnt just the oil lobby, this is a threat to all gas and diesel vehicle owners.

TOTAL BULLSHIT
If you bought, and it's still stock there is NOTHING the STATE OF CALIFORNIA CAN OR WILL do to stop you from,
Registering, Licensing and using ANY VEHICLE you own.
STATE OF CALIFORNIA has never, and will never retroactively tightened existing emission standards of any vehicle.
Yes CARB is always studying, and looking to reduce vehicle emission, and some of their ideas are "out there",
but usually lead to nothing radical.
SMOG Testing has actually become easier in California, Vehicles with OBD2.
The SMOG guy plugs into your OBD2 port, if you don't have Check Engine light, or codes, you pass.

anyone with anything that hauls... F350/450 or bigger and diesel powered looks like you guys are going to have your asses handed to you.

the way I understand it is, either repower it or sell it. I have to wonder how this is going to work...all the tow trucks, fire trucks, ambulances etc etc fall into this....school busses...the works..

International cab/chassis (box trucks and the like) also fall into this..

anyone here from CA that can comment to this? seems like it is going to be detrimental to individuals and small businesses.

California has tightened the standard on existing vehicles. Myn1986 vanagon now must have a special californa catalyst, much more expensive than the stock one. They also upped the standard for the gas tank pressure test beyond the factory specification. These bastards want to ban our classic cars, refusing to register older, but otherwise compliant to the standard when built diesel trucks will set the precedent to refusing to register your classic car They already allow so called clean cars special use of traffic lanes.

The sights are set on our VWs this crap needs to stop now.

Ahh, yes, more condescension from the hybrid hypocrite that, just like every other hybrid owner, feels so technologically & environmentally superior to everyone else just because their car cross-dresses as an electric vehicle.

Thanks I’ll keep driving it getting better than 50mpg while you cling to buggy whip mentality. This country has always prospered through ingenuity and risk taking entrepreneurship. Change is difficult isn’t it? For those unwilling to let google be their friend the EV1 had a range of 400 miles. Probably shouldn’t even bring up steam as a power source or some here would really blow a gasket. 😀 relax already.

if you want electric, go for it, but gawd dam anyone that tries to take my VWs

I’m a little more flexible in that I can drive and generally like whatever I have at my disposal. I like technology and creature comforts too but I still drive my old bug when the mood strikes me. Wife’s been getting on my ass to get my other VWs running, got a 54 and a 55 bug type 1s in dry storage. I’ll park the early bugs alongside the Prius Very Happy that will make a nice picture yes?

Like these useless wastes of time: The Clean Water act, the Clean Air act, Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species act.

All of those have had major positive effects on our population.

I love it when people from the Midwest and the South talk shit about California.

I like clean air and water...I think most do.

the issue with this is not only a financial burden on all parties involved...it solves nothing...

just like recycling does....

it use to be separate glass/paper/plastic etc....so now you have 3-4 more 30 yard dumpsters being made (at least here we have 4) so double that amount for change outs when full, and now 3-4 more times a roll off has to run down the road getting 10 feet to the gallon.

now they just switched to single stream....so all yer shit goes into one dumpster and gets burnt. the catalytic converter technology on incinerators is pretty dam good now...whatever ferrous stuff doesn't burn gets recycled.

so once again it's a chase your tail scenario....

what's not to say these guys comply with a repower and 3 years from now they outlaw that too....

i used to put my cans and bottle in the recycle bin for pick up. But then they started charging a sin tax on each bottle and can to encourage more recycling. To get my sin tax refund, I must drive to the one recycle center in town, population 77,000, to get my money back. The hours of operation are sporadic, I even had them close for lunch while I was in line, and that line can be huge, with people who make a living collecting bottles and cans out of the streetside recycle bins. If I wait long enough, I dont get my money back, rather I get a voucher to the grocery store adjacent to the recycling center, and that voucher expires at end of the day, not 24 hours, but that night.

Screw that, not worth my time. since I paid my sin tax, to hell with them, I dont recycle the bottles and cans at all, they go in the trash, fock them! They ruined a good thing with their ridiculous crap.

Went to an Americas Cup boat race event in San Francisco, asked a vendor where I could find a drinking fountain, he said the city removed them for the event. But he had metal reusable bottles to sell me, or a recyclable paper cup for free which he would fill with water
. I mentioned that a regular drinking fountain would create even less waste, but he explained the city did not want a drinking fountain at the event, instead they wanted to educate and promote reuse or recycling! He told me as he handed me the paper cup to dispose of it in the blue recycle bin. I told him, hell no, it was going in the trash, cause I thought this whole thing was stupid. He the said "you would do that would you?" He acted as if I was about to drop kick a puppy. I told him "watch me" and I tossed that paper cup in the trash.

I think we are ready to accept stuff like high speed rail, however our infrastructure is such that 1) it was never set up that way when the highways got going and 2) there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of getting thru all the channels it needs to today (environmental, routes requiring eminent domain etc)

boston to ny is about a 4 hr drive...if we had a train that did it at 200+ mph it would be an hour. sad...the Acela "high speed" train (it can only run about 75mph in spots) is a 3.5 hour ride...

imagine the possibility of having a meeting/job only an hour away? high speed rail would be an amazing thing...but we are simply not set up for it which is sad really.

I always thought it would be neat to do a high speed rail elevated in the median of the highways already in place.

The proposed California high speed rail was pushing $2500 per resident, ie a family of four, 10 grand! not counting operating costs. It was slower than promised, and the state said once running they would ask the FAA to restrict airline flights so as to encourage use of the stupid train. Oh sure it was suposed to be a job creator, unless you factor in the lay offs at the airport. Glad it was stopped. Even if train ticket was free,I could fly to LA from San Jose a dozen times for less than the construction costs will cost the citizens on average, but you can bet the cost is higher than $2500 per taxpayer, as many citizens dont pay taxes, such as children, bums, etc....

High speed rail, a false label meant to sell the idea, was never about transportation. It was a sell-out to the construction contractors who financed campaigns. That's how California (and all) politics works.

The people will not do anything until political party agenda's are exposed and the people ( representatives ) who write up these bills are exposed. Then what you need to do is find legislators that are on you're side to defend your cause.

People with good intentions are no match for entrenched business interests. For the Cliff notes version you need to watch “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” unless and until it effects a majority of the people it won’t be perceived as a problem, by then it may be too late.

It's the people with the good intensions, the do gooder's that are making this all happen. I suggest reading how the U.S is the biggest oil supplier in the world today and how it got that way. Ever remember the oil embargo and the long gas lines of the early 70's? That won't happen again.

Just yesterday I happened upon a book I read years ago, The Seven Sisters by Anthony Sampson. Although written in 1975 it’s relevant because it was written 2 years after the first embargo and it goes deeply into how and why. The book begins with the tribal wars which have been going on forever but after WW1 Great Britain carved up the land and renamed everything while stealing the oil.

Flash forward WW2 Americans then went in and picked up where the Brits left off. Follow that up by Operation Ajax and other maneuvering and then we can appreciate why we are hated there. Yes I remember the embargo and I remember when gas was less than 30 cents a gallon. Very Happy

They hate us anyway. We might as well have the oil.
