I was wondering if anybody has tried painting the black dash veneer to the body color?

It’s not uncommon to remove the veneer first, then paint the dash face. Just painting over the veneer probably isn’t such a good idea.

If you have a later Ghia with a black plastic dash, it's likely that when you remove it there will be a bunch of slots and holes. You'll have to do some welding, grinding, and smoothing before you paint. Or do a dash swap with an earlier year.

You can paint the plastic. Just apply an adhesion promoter first.

'65 dash in my '67 Ghia. No dash pad. Filled the speaker opening and squirted paint on it.

Looks like you also filled the other holes as well that are punched into the face and underside of the late dash. Looks good.
