Just drug this heap home tonight. I believe it's a September 1956 build, but I'll have to check the numbers again on it. Has some good stuff, also has a few hacks. More pictures to come!

Sweet looking truck, congrats on the purchase. One vote to leave the OG paint. _________________ Wanted : January '57 Palm Green Sand Green Bus Parts - Middle and Rear Seat Frames - flat back. I have original seat covers but would consider covered frames.

We got the truck cleaned up a bit today. We’ve been chasing this one for awhile - I got some pictures of it a few years ago but could never quite figure out where it was at. Heard it was sold a few months ago and chalked it up to a loss, but it came up for sale locally yesterday. Here’s a few pictures of the good parts!
Here’s the not so good part!

I wonder what they hauled back there? _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Supposedly it was used for hauling a water tank around - I don’t see why they couldn’t have just put it on the bed instead. Maybe it was too tall?
The underside of the truck is awesome, with hardly any rust. Just a little on the short rocker behind the treasure chest door, and the same spot on the other side. Front floor needs the outer edges done, but other than that it’s in good shape. We just finished fixing a bunch of rocker/outrigger/jack point rust on our 60 Single Cab, so this one will be a little different. At least you can weld this one from the top!

Looks super solid apart from that home improvement. Luckily you can keep that awesome faded paint intact too. |

gorgeous pic!
maybe the handing was better with the weight lower down?
They wanted a low loader, but just hacked it into one. Decent project, though. Love the patina. |

We're trying to get our title situation figured out right now, and are a little confused since we've never had a pre-M Code bus titled. Should the number on the title be the body number stamped behind the seat? Or should it be the number stamped on the chassis plate on the passenger side of the engine?
Thanks for the help! |

Your VIN should be stamped on the ID plate and on the body just below the ID plate.

Yes, what b-man said.
The number stamped into the metal in the engine compartment, which will match the number stamped into the VIN plate.
If your Truck is titled by the body number this was a mistake made in the past and I would get it corrected with an inspection. _________________ How to Post Photos

Just a heads up, that is a bus vin above, not early truck.. the truck vins are stamped on an angle. Great single cab- wish my chassis was that solid! _________________ "If you don't do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do." -Warren Miller |

After we let it sit for a couple years, we finally got around to getting started on the 57 single cab. We found some gates on the samba that had lots of repaints, but we had good luck with Easy Off to get them back to original paint. The gate hinge bolts on the truck were insanely stuck, so we ended up pounding the pins out and replacing them instead. We painted some wheels and got tires mounted so we can finally roll it around as well. Should be a good winter project!
