I primed my T-34 rims black, then 2 toned them white and Sea Blue#2. I actually preferred the 2 tone look versus the "rim embellishers". _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Never saw this question answered in here. I know it's an old thread, but this would be good info to share.
I have an early Type 3 slotted wheel in good condition. But I cannot find a date code anywhere. |
It should be stamped on the rim lug pattern flat, like the VW symbol in the black and white rim above. It'll give you the month and year, along with an ET number and rim width. I hope this helps. |
I cannot see anything in that area. I have been looking at wheel dates on bus and beetle wheels for years, so I am familiar with what they "should" look like. But this wheel looks to have nothing at all. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

Somewhere along the line I acquired one of those slotted rims because I needed a rim for the spare tire. Thought I was getting a smoothie but the seller must have taken the photo with a potato and I ended up with the slotted early wheel.
If anyone in Aus is looking for one hit me up. I know they are pretty rare down under. Ideally I'd like to swap it for a smoothie. I know what it's like to be looking for hard to find parts that never seem to come up for sale locally. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

Sorry, I was referring to a post I saw on another thread. See below. Does this apply to late type 3 rims only?

Hi,
I have a '64 Push-Button Notchback TS model. The wheels that came in the car are smooth (with no slots at all), don't have clips (which is correct for '64 BUT the centers do not exceed the lip of the rim like mentioned earlier on this thread. Also, two of my wheels have a groove midway through the lip.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks, Ern |
I am not totally sure what you mean by the bolded part above, can you post photos?
As far as I know there is only one style of Type 3 smoothie wheel.
The Type 3 smoothie is correct for your '64 unless you have a super early '64 model, probably built in August, 1963. |

how do I tell them from a regular bug smoothie?
Would they look the same as a beetle's, just without clips? |
the offset on the T3 wheels is a dead give away et46, so if you put a straight edge across the face, the wheel center sticks out further than the outer rim.
1967 bug wheels are similar, but 4" wide, T3 are 4.5" _________________ 1973 super 2110cc

So, sorry if I’m going over same old ground here, but I read this twice and I’m still a bit confused here…
Would my Feb 64 Square have smooth rims or ones with the four slots? If smooth, how do I tell them from a regular bug smoothie? Would they look the same as a beetle's, just without clips? |
